Om Chanting Workshop in Delhi

Om Chanting Workshop Om was the first sound of creation. It is said to have emerged from the damru of Lord Shiva. Before sound (creation), there was eternal silence and absolute stillness. Therefore, sound is the first manifestation of physical creation. From sound emerges the dimension of colours; from colours emerges everything that we see in the physical creation, including our physical body. A combination of certain sounds is a mantra. Sounds programmed as mantras have a very powerful effect on the body as well as the environment and are instrumental in elevating the consciousness of a being, thereby facilitating manifestation of thought. It is through the power of sound and mantras that Tansen ushered rains on earth or Guru Shukracharya was able to resurrect the dead. The science of mantras holds true even for present times, with so many researches and experiments being conducted internationally on the power of mantras. However, for a mantra to ...

BREAK THE AGE CAGE

If you happen to take a flight at night, and if you get a window seat - just look out of the window when you take-off, you will see thousands of tiny dots of light coming from thousands of houses that lie below and if you peep into any of those houses, you will find people not very different from one another, going through similar life experiences - each one is stressed, each one is disturbed by the same set of problems - health, finances, relationships and/or emotions. A Dhyan Foundation volunteer doing asan It is these stresses that weigh down an individual all through the life keeping him entangled in the everyday struggle and before one knows, the hair are grey, the spine is bent, the skin is shrivelled, the eyesight dim, the body is host to a plethora of diseases, and the stress...it only increases, never subsides- deteriorating the body further and faster. Psychological stress is in fact the prime factor expediting ageing in the body. Medically, the psychological stre...

The Cycle of Movement

The inherent tendency of all that is manifest in creation is movement. This is either upwards or downwards, be it in the spiritual world, the commercial or the emotional, of which relationships are a part. Nothing is ever constant. No matter what position you are at in life, or who you are with or how much power and influence you wield, it is never constant. Even  science  tells us that what goes up has to come down. The apple fell on Newton’s head and modern science gave us the law of gravity—the apple was first in a different form, embedded in a seed which is itself in an apple which had gone up before and is now coming down. It is a matter of debate for the modern man—did it go down first or up? The vedic seers call this the cycle of maya which is unending and has emerged from the creator. We spend lifetimes after lifetimes debating on what emerged from what or whom; the debate will never end because its basis is incomplete knowledge of the dynamics of c...

Practices For A Healthy Life

Yog is a science which has been practiced for thousands of years. The benefits of yog have been experienced by practitioners when they have taken up the practice in its entirety. The rules of yog stay the same even today despite the lifestyles of individuals undergoing a sea of change. Just as a patient would benefit from doctor's prescription if and only if the patient takes the medication in its entirety, similarly yog has to be seen as a divine prescription, which cannot be altered as per individual's comfort or acceptance. Further, to reap the benefits of yogic practices, they need to be done regularly... you cannot cure yourself of a disease just by reading the prescription, the medicine also has to be taken also. Yog simply put is union in, and union with, all spheres of life. One does not have to renounce this world and go to the mountains. A practitioner of yog can lead the life of a householder, executing his or her responsibilities towards the family a...

The circle of life

The circle of life Yogi Ashwini Avyakt (unmanifest) gives rise to the vyakt (manifest) and there are two aspects of vyakt — Shiv and Shakti. Their union leads to creation and separation traces the journey to where it all began. The two processes alternate to form a circle.
The night of December 31 marks the beginning of a new year as per the Gregorian calendar. The vedic sutras divide the year into four mahasandhyas. The night of Diwali triggers the process of coming together of the forces of Shiv and Shakti, their merger being complete on the night of Shivratri. After Shivratri, the separation process is initiated to be completed by Holi. Whereafter, once again the two forces start coming together to meet on Guru Purnima and then separate by Diwali, hence completing a year.
This phenomenon of union and separation can be traced to every single day of our life. A day is divided into four sandhyas, at the evening sandhya, the time of dusk, the divi...
