How does one master the thought?

Environmentalists across the world have been expressing concern over global warming, soil erosion, oil spills, deforestation, hole in the ozone, depleting groundwater reserves, endangered species etc. While there have been campaigns to check pollution of air, water and earth, many environmentalists have ignored the pollution of space. Space or ether is contaminated by thoughts. Just like air, water, earth and fire need space to come into contact and form physical objects, in the same way, the thoughts are the breeding ground for other contaminants to foster and cause pollution. In fact, any phenomenon manifests first in thought and later indeed. The atom bomb was first a thought that later translated into the destruction of mankind. In this sense, if we check pollution at the level of thoughts, the need for conservation will never arise. Our physical body, too, is the five elements. Thus, the root cause of all bodily ills, too, is just a thought. Every time a thought is...

Interview | How can yoga help in solving issues like corruption and naxalism?

You talk of mind pollution. What is it and how can it be removed? To understand pollution, you must first understand nature. In nature, whatever flows remains healthy and whatever stagnate leads to disease. Stagnation would lead to pollution, which is the first stage of a disease. So, stagnation of wealth, thoughts or that of the body would definitely result in disease. The disease could manifest in any part of the atmosphere as air, soil and water pollution. In the body, it may manifest in the form of diseases like cancer, which are a manifestation of emotional pollution. The simple solution for this in Sanatan Kriya is that you let yourself flow: help others, feed others, defend the weak, become the strength of the disturbed. In so doing, your resources, whether mental or physical, shall flow and keep you and your atmosphere healthy. Don’t allow any stagnation in your bodies or banks; and hence, no pollution will be there, neither mental nor manifested (physical). Yogi Ash...

Simple ways to protect yourself from smog

While environmental solutions may not happen quickly, here are a few asanas suggested by Yogi Ashwini to help you through. Delhi went breathless recently with increased pollution levels. Blame it on fireworks, automobiles or industries, the smog can take a toll on your body especially the lungs, opening gates for a plethora of ailments. Here’re 3 techniques from Sanatan Kriya to keep your lungs strong, and your system humming and free from toxins. Nadi Shodhnam Pranayama It is a fairly simple breathing exercise that can be done anytime, anywhere. Sit in vajra asana (sitting on the heels with legs folded). You can do it even while sitting straight on a chair. Place the middle finger of the right hand at the center of the eyebrows. The thumb rests on the right nose while the ring finger is used to control the left. The left-hand rests on the thigh. Keeping your eyes shut, inhale from the right nostril, and exhale from the left. Next, inhale from the left nost...

Time to Recharge

Each one of us has a corresponding star, from where we have come and where we return to after every birth. We are a reflection of that unique star. With every passing moment, the heat of the stars is reducing. Every new birth, every new year, every new day, every new hour marks a reduction in the energy of your star. Your energy, the energy of your star, the energy of the sun and the energy of the creation are reducing despite the fact that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. This energy is simply changing form. That is why the form of human being today is not the same as what it was 500 years ago and the form of humans back then was not the same as the form of rishis 5,000 years ago (heat then was much more than it is now). This is the reason why the wisdom of the Vedic seers has been eroded in the present age, as there is hardly anyone who possesses the heat to receive, understand and act upon that wisdom. (In my book The Ageless Dimension , I explain kriyas through which...

Purifying Nature Of Fire

Agnihotra was performed to transmute one form of energy to another for cleansing, writes Yogi Ashwini Rig Veda talks about techniques to gain knowledge from subtle forces of creation through havan or homa which is transmutation of energy from one form to another using the medium of agni, fire. Agni is the first word in the Rig Veda. Agnihotra havan is mentioned in the Yajur Veda more often than in the Rig Veda. The sun is a significant source of prana or life. In 12 hours the sun changes colours from light pink to dark pink, saffron, golden and bright golden. The final shade changes from saffron to violet. Each colour has its own energy pattern; each of these energies relate to an aspect of the physical and subtler worlds. We are blessed with everything we desire in colour codes. Colours are also used in healing sciences, nutrition and creation maintenance. Agnihotra is performed at sunrise and sunset. The prime chant is “Idam na mam” – “All this is not mine,” indica...

“In nature, whatever flows remains healthy and whatever stagnates leads to disease.”

Yogi Ashwini, the Guiding Light of Dhyan Foundation, is an authority on Yoga, Tantra and various spiritual sciences. He has an Honours degree in Economics and a Master’s in Management. Blending the best of traditionalism and modernism, he has assimilated the Vedic techniques to formulate Sanatan Kriya for modern man. He spoke to BE’s Abhijit Ganguly about yoga being sadhana (devotion) that brings stability and peace. Q) You talk of mind pollution. What is it and how can it be removed?
