Guru: The key to success

Do you want to achieve the finality or supreme reality? If yes, then read on.  Let's do a small experiment. Go to a field or any open space. Mark any one spot as A, which is your start point. A kilometre away from it mark a point B, the destination you want to reach. Now start walking from A to B keeping your mind free of thoughts. The minute you get a thought take a turn. Every thought, a turn. Write to me how long it took for you to travel the distance. Yoga is the journey from A to B. A, is where you are, B is the finality. Guru is someone, who has already walked that path and has the experience of finality. So he is able to show you the path. But to walk it or to take turns or stop, is the choice of the sadhak. Traits of a Guru by Yogi Ashwini The key to success is the path of least resistance. The various desires, thoughts, sceneries, people and pleasures that one intercepts on the path, act as resistances, that prevent the sadhak from moving ahead. This i...

PRIORITISE YOG

Yog is a beautiful journey, it is a journey into the physically manifested Creation, enjoying its aspects and then going beyond them into higher forms of pleasures and higher dimensions of experience. I get people from all walks of life and from all strata of society who come to me with a zillion questions about the physical life and what lies beyond it. The interesting thing being in all those zillion questions is that they can be divided into five heads as I have previously written in my last article, the sixth head being the true seeker, these are the people who have lived with me in previous lifetimes and have been a part of me and my various lives, whether on the battlefields of Afghanistan or the dunes of Rajasthan or the ashrams of Narmada and the Himalayas. They have started their journeys with me many lifetimes back and have now come again to continue them…in this life. I normally have been questioned by many people about the experiences which one gets on ...

OVERCOME OBSTACLES TO MEET SHIVA

Mata Parvati was the daughter of a great king. When she chose to marry Lord Shiva, her parents objected and ridiculed her decision. They asked her why she would want to stay at Mount Kailash where there is nothing but snow, instead of marrying a man owning a huge kingdom and a palace. To this, she replied that all of these are temporary. When her parents didn’t believe her, she gave them a glimpse of their future. They were shocked to see that their lavish palace was nowhere to be seen, it didn’t exist. That is when they understood what their daughter was saying. That is when they got the gyan. Everything that is a part of the physical world—the body, property, relatives, friends and riches—is unreal and will leave us one day. It is only when you are able to access Shiva that this gyan flows and you get the darshan of what is real. The path leading to Shiva, however, is not easy. Sadhaks, who choose to tread this path, need to possess traits like Shiva—tapasya, vairag...

Owe it to the Guru

Gyan flows from guru to shishya, there is no book or kriya or mantra that can replace a guru. It is the guru-shishya parampara that has bestowed Bharatvarsha with the reservoirs of gyan in the form of the Upanishads. In fact, the term upanishad translates as ‘sitting near the guru’ and is formed from two words: ‘upa’ that is near, and ‘nishad’, which means to sit. Just sitting in the company of guru can reveal truths so profound and deep that even till date, many parts of the Upanishads are yet to be explored by modern scientists. Garbha Upanishad, the treatise on conception and growth of a child in the mother’s womb, is an example. Given at least 4,000 years ago by Rishi Pippalaada, the Garbha Upanishad details how conception takes place, factors that determine gender and traits of the baby, the environment inside the womb, the stages in development of embryo and what it goes through. It might come as a surprise, but in the womb itself, the being starts making promises and forg...

Guru Purnima

A guru has the phenomenal potential of taking you beyond, not just from the pains and miseries of life but beyond yourself. In Vedic philosophy the highest place and regard is given to the energy called guru. The guru is not a physical being; guru is the energy, considered even higher than para brahma, the Divine Consciousness. For a sadhak (practitioner), guru is the Divine incarnated. Guru’s shakti (force) is not limited, as the energy is anant (endless) and akhand (expansive). A shishya should always consider the word spoken by his guru as a mantra. Only those who are blessed can see beyond the egoistic perception of the limited senses and not use the mind to make the mistake of assessing this energy, for what is unlimited cannot be assessed by a limited mind. Guru Purnima holds the highest place in the yogic philosophy, for it is the day when the guru’s force is at full bloom and is very easily accessible. Just like full moon when the moon’s magnetism is at its height, similarly...
