What is truth?

The truth behind the inevitability of change in nature and the human body. Your body, the flowers and trees, the sun, the moon, water…they are all changing all the time. What you looked like 10 years back or even a year back is not what you are this instant. The body is constantly moving towards destruction. A new set of cells replaces the cells in your body every seven years. Even what you see as death has happened so many times before; it is just that you are only able to understand it when the body is taken to the shamshan . Just think about it…today your hair are grey, ten years back they were black. So are you that same person who had black hair? The prana that governs your body too is undergoing a change with every passing thought of yours. In fact, it is because the prana is changing that the body too is undergoing a change. So which is the truth, what things were a moment back or what they will be this instant? What is changing even that is not truth, b...

Only Yoga has the ability to rid you of your woes

There are people who, even after years of interacting with me and getting their experiences, ask me if I could teach them a new practice, a new mantra, a little more gyan or about Ashtang Yog. I wonder, what more can I teach them? Rather, what is there to teach? You are at point A, you have to go to point B, and the path from A to B was clearly laid down by Rishi Patanjali thousands of years ago. All that is needed is for you to walk that path… yama, niyama, asan, pranayam, pratyahaar, dharna, dhyan, samadhi… and you will our destination. Yoga does not call for standing on your head or breathing abnormally; neither does it involve complicated diets and rituals—it is simply integrating the principles of Ashtang Yog in your everyday life. Let us look at just the five yamas and niyamas: satya—to always speak the truth; asteya—not to steal; aparigraha—not to collect; ahimsa—non-violence; brahmacharya—celibacy; swacchh—cleanliness and personal hygiene; santosh—satisfaction with what you...

Who are you?

Take a look at the mirror. Is this who you are? If yes, then who is the person in the 10-year old family portrait? And where will you be when the mirror shows a wrinkled face with grey hair 20 years from now? Are you the person who was sure he could not live without a certain somebody or the one who is now cursing the day he met her? What is it that attracts you to another body — for a short while, temporarily, but enough to enamor you and make you regret later when it is too late as your body has aged? Think about it. What is it in this body that is you? What is it that makes you who you are? People tell me ‘we are the soul’ but then where is the soul? What is the soul? All these are just words till the time you actually have an experience of it. The truth is we do not know who we are, what we want or why we are here. So when we have no idea of what or where we are, who is that we are serving? We sp...

Myths about Spirituality

Yogi Ashwini Spirituality, as the word suggests, is a dimension which dwells into the world of the spirit, or in simpler words, the etheric world. As per Sanatan Kriya, there exists not just our physical body, but beyond it, various bodies which are composed of a force or energy which is not solid but which exists as a subtle force made up of various colour combinations. These bodies interpenetrate the physical body and could be called the “Ether”. The study of this force in its various layers, aspects and dimensions is what spirituality is. A major myth about spirituality is that it is actually a part of a religion. Religion is a code of conduct prescribed by certain highly evolved souls who had taken birth in the physical world at a time when they were needed for the benefit of the mankind. A particular group of people following a specific religion is actually following a way of life or a code of conduct and certain practices for their upliftment. No religion can be judged ...

The one and only harmony

YOGI ASHWINI Om poornamidah poornamidam poornaata poornam uddachhyate Poornasya poornamaadaaya poornamevaava shishyate Om. The above sloka implies that infinity plus infinity is infinity, infinity minus infinity is infinity, infinity multiplied by infinity is infinity and infinity divided by infinity is also infinity. The brahmand is a complete whole. Everything has emerged from it and will go back to it. It has no boundaries; it is infinite. Our body is a poorna ansh (complete aspect) of creation. Like everything else in creation, our body too is run on the principle of balance and imbalance. When you are in a state of balance, you exude health, beauty, glow and radiance. You possess the magnetism and attraction of entire creation. However, whenever there is imbalance, disease and ageing set in. These days most schools that are teaching yog follow a piecemeal approach. You will find men claiming to be ‘yoga instructors’ selling exercises to sharpen eyes, abnormal breathing s...

The True Meaning of Yoga and Sadhana

by YOGI ASHWINI JI The Times Of India The guru , through shaktipath, initiates a person on the path of sadhana. The process requires immense energy, which is transferred from guru to shishya. If this energy is channelised towards people who have no value for it, the energy dissipates. That is why it is said that knowledge or 'gyan' should not be distributed before people who don't value it. This can also be said for people who come to listen to a discourse not to imbibe gyan but to defy it. These people are not searching; they are ruled by ego. They are not interested in sadhana, are a drain on the energy of the initiator and are no good for the evolution of mankind (which is the purpose of shaktipath). The practice of yog has become a subject of social discussion. It is fashionable to proclaim, "I do yoga..." There are no dearth of people who, for selfish reasons, go around claiming to be yoga masters. What one needs to understand is that yog is not ty...

Journey of the soul

Soul is a unique pranic frequency. In unmanifested form it exists as part of Para Brahma, just as salt exists in ocean. Only when it desires a certain experience or a set of experiences does it choose to go through the cycle of karmas , birth and death. The basic reason or the root cause of the soul separating from the source is ego that recognises one’s existence as an individual. The ancients called it “asmita” , or “I”. This was the first step we took when we separated ourselves from the Divine Consciousness, which is Sukshma-iti-Sukshma , subtlest of the subtle, the unmanifested. Ego led the soul to realise that it is an individual and so came into existence the jeevatma . The individual consciousness combined with chitta forms jeevatma . Chitta or chetna is all pervading and resides in each one of us as buddhi . Buddhi is unlimited mind. It has the potential to become once again unlimited from the limited but it remains shadowed by manas the sheath, which blurs its vision, w...
