Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

Every aspect of creation resides within the human body. The body being much more than what we see in the mirror, these aspects can be accessed through certain practices from ashtanga yoga and sanatan kriya. If you ask a yogic practitioner about the body, he will describe certain channels and energy centres and also specific forms and shapes associated with different parts of the body. If you happen to attend a vedic yagya, you might see these forms and shapes in the agni. Or if you are in the presence of an evolved guru as he chants certain mantras, you could get the experience. Take for example, the form of Ganapati. We all identify Ganesha as a deity with an elephant head and a pot belly. Ganesha is the energy closest to physical creation. In the human body, it corresponds roughly to the base of the spine, which is the location of mooladhar chakra, responsible for our physical needs. Mooladhar is the highest chakra in animals, the exit point from the yoni of an animal a...

Ardhachandra Asan for Glow and Grace

Yogi Ashwini 's Article in The News Magazine, Aug 2014

It' all her grace

Emotions are at the root of most diseases in the body. Hormones control our various bodily functions. Negative and heavy emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, etc. disturb their normal function and release toxins that find their way to different parts of the body—muscle, tissue, organs etc  thereby breeding disease. The phenomenon holds true for humans as well as animals, only the level of sensitivity differs. This is not to say that humans are more sensitive…certain evolved animals like cows and dogs, at times, display far more sensitivity than most humans. When a cow is scared, sad, nervous or angry, a large amount of toxins are generated in her body. If you happen to visit a slaughter-house, you will be shocked to see the condition of animals, the way they are kept, and the fear in their eyes when the knife is raised…. Imagine the amounts of toxins that are secreted by the glands in the body of such an animal. The adverse effects on health of those who consume their meat ar...

Ganesh Chaturthi Yagya

Simultaneous Yagyas in India and abroad on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi

Krishna saviour of cows and the weak

Lord  Krishna , is the  energy  of the Preserver, Vishnu, which manifested on earth in the  Dwapar   Yug  to protect  Dharma . That is the purpose of an  avtar . Whenever there is the downfall of  Dharma ,  yogis  and rishis  perform  yagyas  for the manifestation of the energy of preserver ( aahvahan ), to protect  Dharma , for the sustenance of creation, and the energy responds…Krishna has said in Gita, ‘ Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya Glanirva Bhavathi Bharatha, Abhyuthanam Adharmaysya Tadatmanam Srijami Aham .' Here I would like to emphasise that  Dharma  is not same as religion, there being no synonym for  dharma in the English language.  Dharma  is the lifeline of creation, that which keeps it going. The  dharma  of sun is to provide  light  and heat to earth. The  dharma  of tree is to purify the environment, provide shade and food. The  dhar...

Remedy for Insomnia

Insomnia Sleep is very essential for the brain and has even been considered a tonic for the brain. ' Nidrayatam Sukham ', is a comparison of the state of sleep made by Charak to pleasure, peace, and happiness, which indicates that only when both body and mind are disease-free and at peace, the pleasures of life can be experienced. This state of mind and body cannot be achieved without giving them adequate amount of rest. Sleep also provides natural immunity to people suffering from any disease. That is why rest is recommended to the ailing. Today sleeplessness or insomnia has become common not only among adults, but among teenagers and children too. In addition to stress, insomnia is a result of over indulgence and lack of discipline in our lifestyles, junk food, and excessive use of screens (cell phones, TV, computer etc). It may start with just one late night and then another and before you know it you start finding it difficult to sleep. Ayurveda  prescribes ...

Vedic Mantra Chanting and Havan Workshop

Havans are not rituals, they are a science, science to establish the connection with the world of energy. Just like science, the results are perfect and precise, provided the havan is performed as prescribed by your Guru, a phenomenon experienced daily at Dhyan Ashram. A havan performed under the sanidhya of a Guru, w ith purity of thought, ingredients and the correct chants, has the effect of completely changing the environment - the weather changes, air becomes fragrant, birds perch on the trees around, there is peace and stillness within and outside. But today havans have become synonymous with soot that makes the eyes burn, incense that chokes and sing-song mantras that are more a test of patience rather than invocation of the Divine. The result? Just look around...we have reached the zenith of negativity and chaos. Here is an opportunity to learn to perform an authentic vedic havan.... Vedic Mantra Chanting and Havan Workshop at Sangeet Shyamla,Vasant Vihar.Delhi 5:30pm onwards. ...

A healthy Stomach

The stomach as per the vedic sources is the organ responsible deriving prana from the food and in this sense, the vedic masters identified three stomachs of a human being - the mouth, the actual stomach and the intestines. All these three stomachs are controlled and governed by the manipoorak chakra in the pranic body of a person. Maximum imbalances in the body start with congestion in the stomach and a faulty elimination of waste from the body, which ultimately manifests into disease. When you eat food, two things can happen that may lead to disease in future. First is the failure of absorption of nutrients from the intestines due to the development of a chemical coating on the walls due to eating food laced with chemicals and masalas. Second, the slow/negligible movement of the ingested food in the digestive tract due to lack of  pranic  energy in the manipoorak, once again resulting from ingestion of chemicals and dangerous masalas. Both these things lead to...

Strong Digestion for a Longer Life

If you recall the episode from Ramayana, you will find that Ravan appeared to invincible despite repeated attacks by Rama and was killed only when Rama pierced his navel with an arrow. The navel corresponds to the seat of power in the body, the manipoorak  chakra that makes up for any weakness and directly controls the digestive system in the body. Ayurveda maintains that death begins in the colon and the modern science agrees with this fact. Hence, in order to ensure a long and healthy life, it is of utmost importance to keep the colon healthy. Realizing this, today the market is flooded with various techniques and equipment to ensure the same. One of these is the hydrocolon therapy. The therapy with the aid of certain instruments washes the intestines with saline water to flush the toxins out of the system. However, being a synthetic process it entails certain side effects such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, discomfort, cramps and infection. During the hydrocol...

MERITS OF COW'S MILK

Milk has been called as amrit in the ancient texts. Charak Samhita reveals that milk increases vitality (ojas) in man. Dhanvantari states that cow’s milk is a desirable and preferred diet in all types of ailments. According to Atharva Veda, the cow, through its milk, transforms a weak and sick person into an energetic person, provides vitality to those without it and by doing so, makes the family prosperous and respectable in the civilised society. Milk is considered as a complete diet providing strength, complexion and nourishment to all seven dhatus as it exhibits properties of ojas, which is the essence of all the dhatus. Traditionally, after boiling, milk is transferred repeatedly from one container to the other till it foams. This process releases vayu (vata), which makes it easier to digest. Of all the varieties of milk, cow’s milk is considered the best. From milk we derive butter, curd, cheese and ghee, all of which are highly nourishing and important part of our diets. ...
