Yoga cannot happen without discipline and a Guru. Here's why.

‘Don’t waste pearls before swines’ traces its origin back to the gyan of Geeta. Yog is a practice which requires a very strict discipline and a Guru. If either is missing, there can be no Yog. Let me explain why. The Gyan should not be wasted in front of people who don’t value it. It should not be imparted to those who come to listen to the discourse with the sole purpose of defying it or arguing about it or showing disrespect. These people are not searching, they are only looking to prove to the world how great they are and much they know, they are ruled by their egos. A lot of energy is lost in initiating a person on the path of Sadhna by way of shaktipath and if this energy is channelised towards initiating the disinterested or people who are bound to leave it in between, then this energy gets wasted. Today it is surprising to see how people go about introducing the Yogic practices without proper instructions and without analysing the individual’s capacity. Through t...

Body sculpting Asans (Part - 1)

People who do over-exercising and excessive gymming do tend to look slim but symptoms of ageing set in very fast in them – wrinkles, grey hair, loss of glow…as every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The faster you breathe and the more you exert yourself, more is the energy produced and equal and opposite reaction is premature ageing symptoms. You would have heard of people dying of sudden heart attacks or cancer in early years. This is an equal and opposite reaction of over straining the body. Sanatan Kriya brings the various layers of body in a state of balance, optimising the metabolic rate and enhancing longevity. Regular practice elevates consciousness and it is through the heightened state of consciousness that changes are affected in the body and environment. There are live examples of practitioners at Dhyan Ashram, who have used this power of consciousness to get the body they desired, to improve relationships and finances at an elementary level and combined with...

Getting rid of back pain

You are as young, as straight your back is…" And our Vedic rishis who believed in this maxim thousands of years ago were the embodiment of it. Most often when people exercise their focus is rarely on strengthening the back or the spine; it is generally to look slim for women and muscular for men. And therefore the essence is lost: the need for a strong back to take you forward and slow down the ageing process. I receive countless emails from people, many in their late twenties early thirties, on back and spine related injuries, problems and even things like sciatica pain. And the irony is that the maximum incidence of back injuries is in those who claim to follow a fitness regime and spend hours in the gym. A prerequisite for yoga is a strong spine. Spine, often called the second brain, holds the entire physical structure and controls reflexes in the body. Here’s a seven-step guide to a straight, strong and supple spine. Preparatory position: Lie flat on the stom...

YOGA-The Ultimate Frontier

Today, June 21st, is the longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere and today is also International Yoga Day. Honorable Prime Minister Modi had suggested June 21st to be declared as International Yoga Day and it is no coincidence that this date was proposed. Apart from being the longest day, it has spiritual significance as well. The summer solstice marks the transition to  Dakshinayana  (  Dakshinayana  is the period when Sun travels back from North to South) and the first Yogi, Lord Shiva is believed to have begun imparting the knowledge of yoga to mankind. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga after Honorable Prime Minister Modi’s recommendation and proposal during his address in the General Assembly in September, 2014. He said  "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; h...
