Ram Navami  falls on the ninth day of the waxing moon in the month of chaitra. The day marks the birth Shri Ram, an incarnation of Lord  Vishnu,  and is commonly seen as a hindu holiday. Let us delve a little deeper on the term ‘hindu’. The term ‘hindu’, as a vast majority of people who live in  Bharat  identifies themselves with, which many mistake to be a religion, was actually coined by the Persians to refer to the people who lived on this side of the Indus river. Till that time there was no concept of religion in  Bharat  and nobody was a hindu. In fact, till the time of Mahabharat, that is,  dwapar yug , even surnames did not exist.
