Let's play organic holi!

The day after holi: pink, green and blue faces, rashes everywhere, body aches, cold, cough and pains occurs - thanks to catching a chill in the wet clothes or an allergic reaction to the using chemical-laced colours and other numbers of particulates that float in during holi air. To keep away harsh chemicals dampening your spirits, all you have to do is to perform simple yogic techniques and raid your kitchen, kitchen garden or your granny’s spice rack to celebrate Holi naturally & organically. The best part, at the end of all the merriment your skin will glow. Yogic Techniques  1. JAL NETI:  (Nasal cleansing) Take 500ml bearably warm water in a neti pot, add ½ tsp black/rock salt and a pinch of turmeric. Stand evenly and bending slightly forward tilt the head at a 45degrees angle towards left. Insert the nozzle of the pot into the right nostril. While breathing normally from the mouth, tilt the pot so that the water runs into the right nostril and flo...

How to balance your body on your fingertips?

The Paanch Maha Prana are the etheric forces, which combine together in a human form to provide basic life force to a human body. Prana vayu is the upward rising force in the region between the diaphragm and the shoulders. Salutations are paid to this by touching the tips of the middle finger and the ring finger to the tip of the thumb. This is called prana vayu mudra. Apana vayu is the downward moving force, from the navel towards the pelvis. Salutations are paid to this by touching the tips of the ring and little finger to the tip of your thumb. This is the apana vayu mudra. Samaan vayu is the balancing force between prana vayu and apana vayu. It is the outward and sideways moving force in the region between the diaphragm and the navel. Salutations are paid to this by touching the tips of index and middle finger to the tip of your thumb. This is called the samana vayu mudra. Udana vayu rises upwards from the pit of the throat. Salutations are paid to this by t...

Video | How can vedic havans result in anti-ageing?

Agni or fire is the first word of the Rig Veda. Did you know that according to ayurveda the various agnis in the body are at constant work burning body fuel and along with it body’s resources? For example, in the process of converting food into energy the internal chemical processes affect organs of the body. The heavier the food more the resources required to burn it and convert it into energy, the more the body ages. In a similar manner, fast breathing, sexual act, anger, attachment, greed, violence, sorrow and various kinds of indulgences lead you to engage in intense processing of thoughts, which utilise the body’s resources and engage the various agnis resulting in ageing. So, is there a way to make these agnis ‘shaant’(calm), resulting in anti-ageing, balance and tuning oneself to the subtler frequencies? The answer lies in performing Vedic havans, which are done on a large scale at Dhyan Ashram. Significance of havan and different havan kunds Fire is an eleme...

Yog is a beautiful journey, but you are the one who needs to make it

Yog begins at the feet of the guru. Guru carves out a path and to get that experience, you need to walk it. Roaming around the guru, showering him/her with compliments or trying to impress him/her with your power, looks or wealth is redundant. For if the guru has the state of these things (physical creation), how will he/she take you beyond? And if he/she has traversed the journey of yog, then to reach him/her, you have to walk that path. Only then will you have the darshan of his/her swaroop. Whether your vehicle is a broken Fiat or a Phantom or a jet-plane (the vehicle here indicates your body), if you keep admiring it in the mirror, you will stay where you are. The mirror does not traverse, nor will the body. Even a broken Fiat can reach, if it walks the path of guru. Otherwise, you can keep polishing the car, change its upholstery and tyres, put various kinds of fuel, nothing will happen. One day the car (body) will fade away, as will the mirror. Slowly the car will ...

Yogic Practices for a Beautiful, Healthy Life: The Beginning

Yog is a perfect and precise science practiced by the vedic seers for thousands of years and given to us in its pristine form, through the ancient practice of Guru-shishya parampara. The rules of yog stay the same even today despite the lifestyles of individuals undergoing a sea change. Yog is not about rapid breathing exercises, or tying yourself in knots, it is a beautiful journey of the self.  The benefits of yog have been experienced by the practitioner when they have taken up the practice in its entirety. Just as a patient would benefit from the Doctor’s prescription if and only if the patient takes the medication in its entirety, similarly yog has to be seen as a divine prescription, which cannot be altered as per individual’s comfort for acceptance. Further to reap the benefits of these practices you have to practice them regularly because you cannot cure yourself of the disease just by reading the prescription, you need to take the medicine as well. Yog simp...

Activating your chakras for a healthy you – Mooladhar Chakra

There is more to us than what meets the eye, the physical body is only an aspect of our existence which is directly controlled by the etheric layer, some called it the aura, vedic rishis called it the Pranamaya kosha. Chakra Beej kriya, the preliminary practices of which were introduced in the previous article taps into this layer by means of sounds and asans to stimulate the chakras. There are six major chakras in the body, each responsible for specific functions, needs and desires. As we progress in the Chakra Beej asans, we move from the grosser to the subtler chakras, understanding and balancing them as we move along. Having performed the basic joint rotations and spine asanas in the earlier articles , we move to the kriya for the Mooladhar chakra. Corresponding to the location of base of the spine, it is at this chakra that the phenomenal power of kundalini energy rests. Mooladhar is the base chakra for humans; it is the highest in animals. It controls the survival...

Sanatan Kriya flow for glowing skin

Originating from Ashtanaga Yog, Sanatan Kriya is a field of yog that addresses the whole body. The kriya has five basic steps on which it is based. These are named as Ujjai pranayam, rotations, chakra santulan pranayam, panch mahaprana and dhyan with the guru. The Sanatan Kriya is exclusively formulated by Yogi Ashwini, spiritual head of Dhyan foundation. Sanatan Kriya has numerous benefits that contribute to its popularity among many followers across the world.  They are such as follows: 1.The sanatan kriya offers to bring balance and steadiness in the body, especially after it is affected by diseases and stresses of day-to-day life. 2.Since the kriya is exclusively formulated, it also offers to work on the prana of our bodies. Prana is the universal flow of energy which currents in and around the body. 3.The kriya also causes an immediate positive effect on the chakras and the nadis (which are the veins interconnected through the force of life, namely the pranamay...

Body sculpting Asans (Part - 1)

People who do over-exercising and excessive gymming do tend to look slim but symptoms of ageing set in very fast in them – wrinkles, grey hair, loss of glow…as every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The faster you breathe and the more you exert yourself, more is the energy produced and equal and opposite reaction is premature ageing symptoms. You would have heard of people dying of sudden heart attacks or cancer in early years. This is an equal and opposite reaction of over straining the body. Sanatan Kriya brings the various layers of body in a state of balance, optimising the metabolic rate and enhancing longevity. Regular practice elevates consciousness and it is through the heightened state of consciousness that changes are affected in the body and environment. There are live examples of practitioners at Dhyan Ashram, who have used this power of consciousness to get the body they desired, to improve relationships and finances at an elementary level and combined with...

Secrets of Anti-Ageing

Our body is composed of millions of cells, each vibrating at varying frequencies of prana. They divide, giving birth to newer cells, which are weaker than the previous ones. This is seen as change to a grosser frequency, or ageing. While there is an age limit to every cell, certain cells do not age—the sperm cells, which are manifestations of sukra in the pranic body. They hold the secret to anti-ageing. A human being has merely seven drops of sukra in the body, and each drop is phenomenal energy; a rejuvenator par excellence and also the giver of new life. When conserved, it translates into phenomenal glow and attraction, lustrous hair and a strong and agile body. A normal person causes it to dry up through emotional congestion, excessive physical labour, anger and sexual activity. This causes inadequate lubrication and faster ageing. Through specific yogic practices, sukra can be conserved and transmuted into ojas, responsible for the extraordinary radiance around a pe...

Natural Antidote To Ageing

The Vedic rishis were the masters of physical and the spiritual, super beings who controlled prakriti and all its manifestations. The physical body comprising of the five mahabhutas (elements) had been completely mastered by them. From the masters of the vedic era to the present-day doctors of modern and alternative medicine, all are engaged in finding a solution to somehow stop, or at least, slow down the body clock. Many on realizing that they are ageing, lose their mental balance. A lot accept it as inevitable. Some get stressed and fearful, and it is these vulnerable people who fall prey to business-minded companies selling anti-aging creams, tonics, rejuvenating serums which at best camouflage the symptoms, addressing just the periphery while the core goes unnoticed. With time, the core emerges revealing the facts, but by then the precious years have been lost and the damage is now irreversible.  It is normal to age...but for normal people. Ageing is a phenomenon o...

The irony of Vedic roundabout

Recently it was in the news that the BBC science show presenter Dr Michael Mosley has discovered  that eating less can increase your lifespan because it slows down the metabolic rate, and hence the rate of cell decay in the body. It is incredible to see that with every passing day every new ‘discovery’ of modern science is only rediscovering and reconfirming what our ancestors had said many thousands of years ago. Be it the nasal irrigation technique (jal neti) to fight infections that has become a rage in the United States; the hydro-colon therapy (basti) or the recent research by Dr Mosley, the world is gradually waking up to the ancient Vedic sciences and laying claims to the knowledge of our ancestors. However, still being in the stage of development, modern sciences are able to touch upon these principles only partially, as in the case of the ‘eat less, live longer’ mantra of Dr Mosley. Ageing is not just a product of a stressed-out digestive system, it works up...
