Path to Self-Realisation

The entire creation is run on the Law of Karma. It is often said, “As you sow, so shall you reap.” When you sow seeds, they germinate, and the quality of the plant you will get depends on the fertility of the soil. Similarly, every act of ours, however insignificant it may be, has the potential to germinate and bounce back, depending on how and where this act has been performed. For instance, it is often said that one must never keep or express ill-feeling towards any spiritual person in thought, word or deed. This is not because all spiritual people are egoists, but because such a person’s energy, by way of yogic practices, is more subtle and stronger. Hence, the reaction of your action against this person will be directly proportional to the level of evolution of this person. It is said that we are all born in this world with empty hands, and one day we will all die empty-handed. Alexander the Great, when he was taking his last breath, had expressed the desire that when his...

Finding The Core

By YOGI ASHWINI The universe is constantly expanding; modern scientists validate this fact. In the beginning, you were a part of that param shakti. But as time moves on, as a result of this expansion, you are drifting away from it. With every passing moment, you are moving away from the place you came from. You are constantly going away from your core, your truth. This is evident if you take a look at the youth of today?weak eyesight, frail bodies, disease, lack of direction, addiction to machines and an artificial life. Just two or three generations ago, people had much stronger bodies. They did not take too many pills. Today, we have developed health supplements, we claim that quality of food has improved, various equipment and machines have been developed to keep one healthy, yet good health eludes us. Before the British conquest of India, there existed a local cure for smallpox in India. Imperialists who wanted to promote their vaccinations suppressed the use of this loc...

Asanas and Exercises

Yogi Ashwini The principles of yoga were laid some millions of years ago. While everything in the world meets destruction and gets lost in oblivion, this ancient system has survived eons as this was very carefully passed on from the Guru to the shishya. So perfect is the science of yog that there is not a single asana which strains the 5th and the 6th vertebrae that under strain cause spinal injuries. On the contrary, injuries to the spine can successfully be cured by correct practices of yoga. Patanjali describes asana as ‘sukham sthiram asanam’, that is, a posture in which you are comfortable and still. Stillness and slowing down is the key to longevity. Modern fitness mantras lay a great emphasis on increasing body metabolism causing faster wear and tear of cells. Asanas do just the opposite , they lower down body’s metabolic rate and increase the strength and vitality of the body. Breath is a very important part of an asana and has to be regulated during holding of a po...

Aura in a World of Logic

The world of the spirit starts where logic ends. Though logic, in the modern world, is the ultimate test of reason and the pinnacle of intelligent thought, minds on a higher plane see logic as ‘lower intelligence’, limited by the boundary of reason which is further restricted by limitations of the individual’s buddhi. This probably explains why every school of spiritualism emphasises experience over analysis and also why the overtly questioning mind chatters incessantly only at the peripheries of the spirit-kingdom, seldom able to penetrate its core. However, since the current world understands only the tongue of logic, we shall try to understand the aura in this context. All bodies emit heat radiation or vibrations - this is a logical explanation of what auras are and why they are constant or changing. A lot of ‘scientific studies’ and ‘photographing’ of physical auras have been done in the West. It has been called the human atmosphere ‘force field’, ‘bio-energy’ and so on. T...

Mysterious world of the spirit

Spirituality, as the word suggests, is a dimension, which dwells in the world of the spirit or in simpler words, the etheric world. To understand this, first of all we must understand what the world of the spirit is. As per the ancients, there exists not just our physical body but beyond it various bodies, which are composed of a force or energy which is not solid but exists as a subtle force made up of various colour combinations. These bodies interpenetrate the physical body and could be called the “ether”. The study of this force in its various layers, aspects and dimensions is spirituality. By understanding this force, we understand the A to Z of the human being, evolution and finally, God. In the modern day world, the study of this science has been confused with certain religions or sects that are prevalent. A major myth about spirituality is that it is actually a part of a religion. Religion is a code of conduct prescribed by certain highly evolved souls who have...

The prana principle of yoga

YOGI ASHWINI. Yoga is a subject of energy or prana, which manifests in various permutations and combinations to form every aspect of creation. Prana is ‘the force’ in the universe and permeates all; it’s also the life force in a human body. When Swami Nada Brahmananda smeared his body with wax and sustained himself in glass enclosure without air, food and water, it was proved that it is not oxygen on which the body thrives. There exists a force beyond. The exchange of prana takes place through four major sources — food, breath, touch and sight. While the first two have been explored at length by modern science, Vedic rishis were not unaware of the importance of the others. Every time you touch someone or something there occurs an exchange of prana, altering an individual’s composition. Similarly, sight is a major source of prana exchange. In fact, ninety five per cent of the prana you receive flows out from the eyes; hence the importance of drishti of guru. Many thousand years ago Vedi...

The solar secret of our cells

YOGI ASHWINI. Isn’t it amazing to see that even teenagers today are suffering from premature graying and resorting to lacing their bodies with chemical-based cosmetics in a bid to make their face glow and hair shine? On the other hand, our rishis of yore not only had a great physique but also had glowing complexions, shiny mane and a healthy body till the very end; they did not age. What was it that they did, that was so different? Had they found the fountain of youth? In truth they simply understood the principles that govern the creation. The good news is that they have left this reservoir of gyan on anti-ageing in the form of yogic techniques like the Sanatan Kriya, the practice of which brings a being in harmony with nature. To understand the process of ageing, we must start from the cell. The body (during its inception) for the first half-an-hour is just one cell; so actually all of us in those 30 minutes are just one cell and then that one cell multiplies forming the whole body. ...

The power of agni

Agni, fire, is the first word of the Rig Veda. According to ayurveda, the various agnis in the body are at constant work, burning body fuel and along with it the body’s resources. For example, in the process of converting food into energy, the internal chemical processes affect the body’s internal organs. The heavier the food, the more the resources required to burn it and convert it into energy, and the more the body ages. In a similar way, fast breathing, sexual acts, anger, attachment, greed, violence, sorrow and various kinds of indulgences lead to intense processing of thoughts, which utilise the body’s resources and engage the various agnis resulting in ageing. So, is there a way to make these agnis shaant, to calm these “fires”, slowing down ageing, regaining balance and  tuning oneself to the subtler frequencies? The answer lies in performing Vedic havans, which are done on a large scale at Dhyan Ashram. Fire is an element that can never be polluted. In fact, ...

Young and wise

Yogi Ashwini, in his book Sanatan Kriya, The Ageless Dimension, talks about how to stay young the natural way. ndian culture is nearly a million year old and it has much following in the western world, but sadly, our own youth is increasingly becoming disconnected with it. To turn the wheel around, Yogi Ashwini stresses that it’s time we reached out to our roots. “Try doing that and see the phenomenal effects,” he says. In Chandigarh for the book launch of Sanatan Kriya, The Ageless Dimension, Yogi Ashwini says, “When one looks around, it’s the mechanical, superficial life that hits one in the face. For youthful looks, people are undergoing laser as well as silicon implants that do the body more harm than good.” Yogi’s book brings the wisdom of the Vedas and the latest from the medical world together. Divided in 16 chapters, this book deals with the harmful effects of the present lifestyle and on how to tackle that. “The book has kriyas, one of them called Kaya Kalp Kriya, t...

Raise your level of being

YOGI ASHWINI Everything in creation is a unique frequency of prana. Consciousness unites with prana to give shape to all things existing in the universe. While prana gives one his/her unique physical state, consciousness channelises his/her thoughts to take shape. Let us take an example. In a company, the CEO sits in a luxurious office and chalks out a plan for the company in a few hours. At the other end of the spectrum is a labourer who spends countless hours every day of his life, bringing the CEO’s thoughts into reality. This is the play of consciousness. Both are unique specimens of consciousness, the ability to manifest. The level of consciousness of the CEO is much higher than that of the labourer and, therefore, the power of his thought. The higher the level, the greater is one’s ability to manifest one’s thoughts. The difference between a successful and an unsuccessful person is their levels of consciousness. How does one increase one’s level of consciousness? Conscio...

Secrets of creation

YOGI ASHWINI. The Vedic masters gave us the concept of poorna or complete. Everything in this creation is a complete whole. Anything that comes out of this creation is complete and anything that goes back is also complete. You are a poorna ansh of this creation. A cell is a poorna ansh of you. All of you existed as a single cell for thirty minutes of your life. It is this cell which divided and multiplied to form your being. Vedic rishis called it the anu. It is now established that the cell divides only a limited number of times, what is referred to as the Hayflick limit, every new cell being weaker than older one. It is this progressive weakening of the cells that is termed as ageing in the body. But, how can something that is infinite culminate into a finite lifespan? Mathematics tells us that infinity divided by infinity is also infinity…Herein lies the secret to agelessness. While medical science has reported this phenomenon in case of human germ line and cancer cells, for a yogi ...

‘Yoga has become a joke’

YOGI ASHWINI. Deccan Chronicle- March 28,2011 Last month he stunned doctors at the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Mumbai, just by looking at photographs of 8 random people — sick and healthy — and identifying the sick ones within 10 minutes. Dhyan Foundation’s Yogi Ashwini’s feat left the doctors speechless. We caught up with the dynamic yogi who is in town for the launch of his book and to hold workshops. On the recent IMA feat, he says, “We asked doctors to give us two types of patients, those with cancer and spinal problems. Most diseases including cancer and trauma are psychosomatic diseases. The emotion manifests and shows. I pointed out the areas where the problems lay and also when the ailments started for all 5 people after seeing their photographs.” “Also, volunteers were made to do 50 minutes of asanas without a break after which the pulse rate of one of the volunteers was checked. It was found the pulse rate had dropped by 15 counts. The doctors were amaz...

Guru - Shishya

Yogi Ashwini  What prompted me to write this article was an interview published by one of the newspapers on a yoga teacher. In one of the lines he was quoted as “my Guru requested me to……” This sadly shows the level of knowledge one has of the Guru and the level of reverence for the Guru today. The Guru never requests you but instructs you and guides you to do a particular act. It is so unfortunate that the people have forgotten the meaning and importance of a Guru. It is very important to understand what a Guru is. Om Dhyan moolam, Guru murti Puja moolam, Guru padam Mantra moolam, Guru vakyam Moksha moolam, Guru kripa,  Om shri guruve namah Om The foundation of Dhyan is your Guru’s image, the foundation of your puja is your Guru’s feet, Guru’s words are like the mantra that cannot be defied and moksha or nirvana is possible only by your Guru’s grace. It is so interesting to know that the concept of Guru is prevalent only in India. There is no ...

Yoga Demystified With Yogi Ashwini

PART 1 PART 2 PART 3 PART 4

The unconventional Yogi Ashwini

Yoga gurus are usually associated with long saffron robes, flowing beards and a Spartan lifestyle. But the same is not so with unconventional Yogi Ashwini. His disciples refer to him as "the guiding light of Dhyan Foundation" which has centres in nearly 30 cities around India as well as in the US, UK and Germany. The foundation says it wants to extend yoga knowledge to the people for free and claims that it is run on voluntary contributions of its volunteers who range from businessmen to doctors and engineers. On his visit to Goa to make people aware of the true yoga particularly the Sanatan Kriya, the yogi believes that "Yoga is a science. It is an interaction with creation, and is not a religion." "Yoga does not ban anything. I have experienced everything there is to experience," Speaking to STOI, the yogi was critical of the commercialization of yoga. "There are a lot of people fooling people in the name of yoga. It is very easy to wear robes, ...
