Yoga and anger management – I

Have you been getting very angry lately? Is anger your second nature? Are you angry all the time? If your answer is yes then you are moving towards the next problem after anger which is hypertension. It is a manifestation of the weakening of the heart. Excess of negativity and hypertension weakens the heart muscles controlled by the Mooladhar chakra. Just relax and rub your hands together to warm them up and slowly bring them together at your mooladhar chakra. You’ll feel some tingling at the tips of your fingers.  If the chakra is weak, you will feel nothing and your hands will come together without any resistance. If it’s strong, you’ll feel pulsations and resistance as your hands try to come near each other. The basic reason for the mool chakra becoming weak is hyperactivity which exhausts the vital prana. Don’t forget that prana is limited. The cells of your body cannot be recharged. You can only spend it and hyperactivity ensures you spend it fast. If you want to...

ANTI-AGEING : BREATHE IT RIGHT

Acts of pleasure fasten ageing

Creation exists in opposites. For darkness, there is light. For sound, there is silence. For happiness, there is sorrow. For pleasure, there is the pain. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. As one indulges in pleasure, whether food or sex, as an equal and opposite reaction, the body ages. The spices in food render it tasty, but also corrode the lining of intestines and increase hyperactivity in body, leading to ageing. Sexual indulgence gives immense pleasure, but also leads to the loss of vital fluid called sukra. In fact, the term coined in Ayurveda for sexual pleasure is ‘sukranash’ or ‘loss of sukra’. According to Ayurveda, the body is composed of seven dhatus—rasa, rakta, mansa, medas, asthi, majja and sukra. These seven dhatus are connected such that loss of one leads to the loss of those preceding it as well. So the loss of sukra entails the loss of all other six dhatus as well. The significance of the Vedic practice of brahmacharya lies herein. Yo...

Anti Ageing- Arrest Ageing Naturally!

The  vedic rishis  were the masters of physical and the spiritual, super beings who controlled  prakriti  and all its manifestations. The physical body comprising of the five  mahabhutas  (elements) had been completely mastered by them. From the masters of the  vedic  era to the present-day doctors of modern and alternative medicine, all are engaged in finding a solution to somehow stop, or at least, slow down the body clock. Many on realizing that they are ageing, lose their mental balance. A lot accept it as the inevitable. Some get stressed and fearful, and it is these vulnerable people who fall prey to business-minded companies selling anti-ageing creams, tonics, rejuvenating serums which at best camouflage the symptoms, addressing just the periphery while the core goes unnoticed. With time, the core emerges revealing the facts, but by then the precious years have been lost and the damage is now irreversible.   It is normal to ...

TACKLE AGEING AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL

The human body is the reflection of one cell. This cell is conceived in the womb and it gives rise to the various organs and tissues of the body on forming of the baby. Ageing works at different levels, with signs first appearing at the elementary level of a cell. It is the cell in which heaviness accumulates and, depending on the dosha type, the disease – whether obesity, depression or heart trouble originates. The day the baby is born the process of ageing sets in the body. This ageing begins because of the breath, which is taken in. Every breath results in the production of energy and the equal and opposite effect is the ageing of the cell due to the production of toxins, called ama  in Ayurveda. This same breathing process results in the loss of skin elasticity, reduction in the ability of the five senses and wrinkles, all of which are a sign of ageing. A simple indicator to assess your state of he...

Stalling Ageing Through Cell

At the time of conception, you were just one cell. Gradually this cell divided itself, multiple times repeatedly, to create the body that you identify yourself with today. In the process of growing up and your day-to-day activities, the cells keep on dividing. Each cell can divide only a limited number of times (modern science calls it the Hayflick limit) and every new cell is weaker than the parent cell. Even as you are reading this article, the cells in your body are constantly splitting up into new ones, and some old ones are dying. This is constant weakening of cells manifests as ageing in the body. We are constantly ageing. In fact, ayurveda describes the body as that which is constantly moving towards destruction,  shiryate iti shareeram . Why? Because you come with a limited life force, called  prana , in the body, which is what governs these cells. Clairvoyants at Dhyan Ashram observe this  prana  in the form millions of micro  chakras  gov...

Live in the present, save your Prana

In the last article, we had discussed how agnis in the body get activated by the basic acts of breathing and eating and how they trigger wear and tear of the body. Recently, a study by the BBC presenter Michael Mosley concluded that eating less makes one live longer. The Vedic texts explain this phenomenon with help of agnis and the rate at which they consume prana in the body. The agnis, which are constantly at work, cause you to age, even as you think.  People who are very intense, who want to go to the root of every issue, their mind is at work all the time. The thought process consumes the vital prana. It is limited in quantity in each cell. Your batteries (prana) are neither unlimited, nor are they rechargeable. Once it is consumed, the body perishes. For example, Bruce Lee was a fine martial artist but he had a lot of aggression (martial arts are not for showing aggression, rather they are meant for defense). His aggression consumed all the energy of the cell a...

The Agni within and cellular life

How is it that the rishis in the Himalayas can maintain their youth till their very last breath? I have personally met some of them; even at 85 and 90 years of age, they exude a glow and radiance that is rarely seen in ordinary men even at the age of 20. Yog is a subject of gyan . No matter how many books you read, unless you have gyan, you cannot move forward. Knowledge is for the brain and the five senses. Gyan, on the other hand, is the core of what you actually are, what you are living through and what you experience. Gyan is the experience that you live. Let us understand the two with an example. We ‘know’ that soul is immortal, and yet the greatest fear among all men, as mentioned in the Patanjali Yogsutras is the fear of death. This is because we do not have the gyan of soul. The fear of death is embedded in each and every cell of our body due to our past life impressions and thus it is very difficult to overcome it. The only way out lies in the Ayurvedic concept of ...

How to combat ageing and disease

The physical body reflects the power of the ether and its practices The Vedic rishis were the masters of the physical and the spiritual; super beings who controlled prakriti (Nature) and all its manifestations. Time and again, modern science and the best of western minds have turned to Vedic culture to find solutions to complex problems. Enough research has highlighted the scientific basis and precision of Vedic concepts. The physical body, comprising the five mahabhutas (elements), had been completely mastered by the Vedic rishis. The rishis of yesteryears could maintain their physical youth and glow till the very end and then leave the body in a state of full consciousness and awareness. It is very possible to achieve the same in this day and age, provided one develops an in-depth understanding of Vedic concepts and applies them in the right manner to master the physical body. Let us begin to understand what was it that endowed the Vedic masters with their phenomenal glow ...
