Yogic Practices for a Beautiful, Healthy Life: Panch Mahaprana

In the last article, we discussed about the prana-shakti, the universal force that drives all life in this Creation including our bodies. Our body, as shared is a combination of the varying prana frequencies in the form of the five elements or the Panch Mahaprana. And it is this frequency which differentiates one being from the other. Panch Mahapranas, is the immediate force which governs the physical body and with this the mudras, i.e., the various movements of the hands and fingers by which we can alter the states of these Panch Mahapranas, which would again have a direct bearing on our etheric body (Pranamaya) and physical body (Annamaya). Modern science tells us that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it only changes form. We all believe it. A fact known way back to the ‘Vedic Masters’, who said around fourteen-thousand years ago that there was no such thing as destruction, what seems to be destroyed actually only changes form. It is from here that the concept o...

Yogic Practices for a Beautiful, Healthy Life: Chakra Santulan Pranayam

As the body is the vehicle of the soul, it is very important to do certain practices to purify (the physical & etheric layers) and strengthen it. The last few articles walked you through certain techniques from Sanatan Kriya, practice and the strict discipline of which only, will help you achieve a balanced and disease-free body. In Yog, optimal utilization of resources is the key to a healthy body. Our body is run on Prana, the force that runs the Creation. Excess prana is not a guarantee of sound health; the key is to balance the various nadis and chakras, which regulate the prana in the body.  Chakra Santulan Pranayam redistributes the prana as per the requirement of the chakras, filling where there is depletion and removing where there is excess. To do the kriya, Sit in Vajrasana. Close your eyes and take a full yogic breath (combination of abdominal and thoracic breathing). Release the breath and take the palms down facing the Mooladhar chakra (Phot...

ANTI-AGEING | BREATHE IT RIGHT

If you trace a person from being an infant to a full grown adult, you will notice, in most cases, a progressive decline in the skin texture and complexion. A baby is glowing pink whereas most adults, even in their prime youth, are plagued with a diseased skin and dull complexion.  This is because, in the process of growing up, one is exposed to certain unnatural practices and stimuli from which it was kept protected in the womb. Take for example, the simple act of breathing. If you observe a baby breathing, you would notice a pronounced abdominal movement. The stomach inflates as it breathes in and deflates as it breathes out. If you observe your own breathing patterns, most likely, you will find it to be the opposite and with little or no abdominal movement…this breathing pattern of yours, holds the key to the way you look and your present state of health. Abdominal breathing maximizes the up and down movement of the diaphragm and ensures that lungs function at their opti...

BACK UP PLAN

“A straight back is vital for a healthy life,” our Vedic  rishis  believed in this maxim thousands of years ago. But why is the back so important? Spinal column is often referred to as the second brain of our body. If you look at our energy body you will find many channels,  nadis  (much like arteries) running all across it. They carry vital  prana  (life force) necessary for the proper functioning of the body. One of the main  nadis  is the  sushumna nadi  whose reflection is the spine. Any kink in this  nadi , that is, a curve in the spine, will cause stagnation of prana. This leads to imbalance and disease. Bear in mind that a weak back leads to several diseases that will keep you running to the doctor. A curved spine also causes the body to age, while one that is straight does just the opposite. Here we will learn a few  asanas  to strengthen your back. However, before beginning ensure that ...
