How to dissolve body contamination?

This is our body and all around us is the environment. This is our body and all around us is the environment. This body is also a part of the environment because everything is made of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air and ether. Actually, the body is made up of 24 tatvas.  The element that is most relevant to this discussion is ‘I’—asmita, aham, ahankar or ego. That is the most important tatva. It is also the first one to get contaminated. In order to contaminate the air in you, a few breaths of polluted air have to be inhaled. But not even a breath is required to contaminate the ego. It happens in an instant.  If you tell a beautiful girl that she is ugly, immediately she believes that she is ugly. After that even if 100 people tell her that she is pretty, she will continue to think she is ugly. The first thing to get contaminated is the ego and that is also the biggest test of a sadhak. The person whose ego is not affected by anything, no matter what ...

How to climb the pyramid of evolution?

In the pyramid of evolution, there is plenty of space at the base but only a needlepoint space at the top. Only a few are entitled to reach the top. This entitlement is not decided by one’s looks or wealth or influence in the society, it is the result of the grace of guru which is earned by one’s karmas and one-pointed focus. This journey to the top of the pyramid is extremely easy and yet most difficult. Easy, because the guru shows you the door and also the path to the door, all you need to do is walk. Difficult because there is only space for a few, so there are energies at play that try to make the sadhaka take a turn. And these energies work at various levels and intensities. At a basic level, they manifest a desire for the sadhaka. A fraction of sadhakas are able to understand the temporariness of the pleasure and are able to keep themselves focused on the finality or the permanent, in the midst of all the pleasures. At the next level, sadhaka is endowed with ...

Why Navratra rules?

Navratras come twice a year, marking the transition of seasons. In Ayurveda, during this time, consume nourishing foods in minimal quantities to rid the body from toxins collected during the rains. The nine nights and ten days of Navratras hold the energy of ten forms of Shakti–Shailaputri, Brahmcharini, Chandrakanta, Kushmanda, Skandmata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri, Siddhidatri and Aparajitha. The weather changes, and various energies of creation move from imbalance towards a new normalcy, including in our body. Our body’s prana shakti undergoes realignment, from imbalance to a new balance for the new season. For this realignment, the body has to be kept light. Therefore, the ancients prescribed fasting or upvaas during these nine days. Upavaas has a  greater connotation than merely holding back from certain foods. At Dhyan Ashram, sadhaks observe upavaas in its authentic sense—giving up all pleasures to observe austerities during sadhna, through celibacy, consumi...

Secrets of Anti-Ageing

Our body is composed of millions of cells, each vibrating at varying frequencies of prana. They divide, giving birth to newer cells, which are weaker than the previous ones. This is seen as change to a grosser frequency, or ageing. While there is an age limit to every cell, certain cells do not age—the sperm cells, which are manifestations of sukra in the pranic body. They hold the secret to anti-ageing. A human being has merely seven drops of sukra in the body, and each drop is phenomenal energy; a rejuvenator par excellence and also the giver of new life. When conserved, it translates into phenomenal glow and attraction, lustrous hair and a strong and agile body. A normal person causes it to dry up through emotional congestion, excessive physical labour, anger and sexual activity. This causes inadequate lubrication and faster ageing. Through specific yogic practices, sukra can be conserved and transmuted into ojas, responsible for the extraordinary radiance around a pe...

Celestial Powers

All creation is governed by certain shaktis. As you progress in yog sadhana, you are able to experience their forms. Each day of the year is governed by a specific shakti. All creation is governed by certain shaktis . As you progress in yog sadhana, you are able to experience their forms. Each day of the year is governed by a specific shakti. This is why yog stresses the importance of niyam and daily practice. If one misses sadhana for even for a single day, the shakti of that day is left behind and the sadhana of an entire year goes waste because in brahmand, if a single thing goes missing then its effect is felt on everything—our body, the earth and other planets and stars. Every shakti has a day, but rituals are not needed to access them. Yog have no ritual, only sadhana of shakti. It is important to understand the shakti of each day and its swaroop. Each form of shakti has a name, but at the present moment, we will only be discussing their forms. The names are t...

Detachment that frees one from pain

You come into this world alone. When you leave, you will go back alone. No one will accompany you, no matter how close they are to you. Pause for a minute and think; the majority of your problems stem from your near and dear ones. The smallest things regarding a close one affect you deeply. The root cause of all arguments, fights, emotional turmoil, congestions and business disputes, too, are these relationships. Hence it is safe to conclude that, for the greater part of our lives, you are troubled not by absolute strangers, but by people you know. All relationships are based on the basic principle of give and take. This is a payback of karmas from your previous births as well as from this lifetime. You get associated with some people because they need something from you and you need something in return. In the absence of this interdependence, the relationship will cease to exist. You remain caught in this cycle of give and take, lifetime after lifetime. You derive pleasure out o...
