How to dissolve body contamination?

This is our body and all around us is the environment. This is our body and all around us is the environment. This body is also a part of the environment because everything is made of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air and ether. Actually, the body is made up of 24 tatvas.  The element that is most relevant to this discussion is ‘I’—asmita, aham, ahankar or ego. That is the most important tatva. It is also the first one to get contaminated. In order to contaminate the air in you, a few breaths of polluted air have to be inhaled. But not even a breath is required to contaminate the ego. It happens in an instant.  If you tell a beautiful girl that she is ugly, immediately she believes that she is ugly. After that even if 100 people tell her that she is pretty, she will continue to think she is ugly. The first thing to get contaminated is the ego and that is also the biggest test of a sadhak. The person whose ego is not affected by anything, no matter what ...

What is the nature of the soul?

To experience the senses and all that the divine has created, the swaroop of a soul is insufficient. Let me share a little story of creation. At the time, there was nothing. Just one vibrant light and a lot of smaller lights (energies) revolving around it in its attraction. They had no desire at this stage, no thought—the state of absolute bliss. Then, suddenly, among the cluster of lights, one small light got a thought—‘I want’—and it set out on a search. As it went, a few more lights joined it. These lights then reached a place abounding in natural beauty, but they were unable to experience it. The main light then gave each of those lights a special suit. Wearing these suits, the lights could experience the many sights. So enamoured were they, that they didn’t even realise that their glow was now covered by the suit, to which they were bound. Slowly, they forgot all about the main light and the state of bliss they were in. Now they were a body, no more a point of light....

How to climb the pyramid of evolution?

In the pyramid of evolution, there is plenty of space at the base but only a needlepoint space at the top. Only a few are entitled to reach the top. This entitlement is not decided by one’s looks or wealth or influence in the society, it is the result of the grace of guru which is earned by one’s karmas and one-pointed focus. This journey to the top of the pyramid is extremely easy and yet most difficult. Easy, because the guru shows you the door and also the path to the door, all you need to do is walk. Difficult because there is only space for a few, so there are energies at play that try to make the sadhaka take a turn. And these energies work at various levels and intensities. At a basic level, they manifest a desire for the sadhaka. A fraction of sadhakas are able to understand the temporariness of the pleasure and are able to keep themselves focused on the finality or the permanent, in the midst of all the pleasures. At the next level, sadhaka is endowed with ...

Significance of karma

Creation is cyclical in nature. There is an upward curve followed by a downward curve. We are presently on the downward curve of creation, the peak of Kalyug. If you look around, everything is on a decline or fast deteriorating. Let us take the health of humans as an example, if you compare your body and level of activity to that of your grandparents when they were your age, you would find, they had fitter and stronger bodies and were able to too much more work than yourself. Then if you go back a few hundred years and compare their bodies to those of their forefathers, a similar trend would be observed. In fact, there is a modern research which confirms that the brain size of humans is shrinking with time. Dog shelters by Dhyan Foundation Not just health, the quality of food, air, water and environment are all on a downturn. Forests are fast disappearing, foods are laden with toxins, water is contaminated, air is unbreathable, wildlife is thinning out. In general, ne...

GOING THROUGH THE KARMIC CYCLE

The article was published in Deccan Chronicle

Defining the process of evolution in a human being

The entire Creation runs on prana shakti, the eternal life-force, an all-pervading phenomenon. All objects, animate and inanimate, are made of prana – including the five elements—prithvi (earth), jal (water), akash (ether), vayu (air), and agni (fire). These elements or the Paanch Mahaprana exist in various permutations and combinations to form different things in Creation including our body. It is these elements that make one woman pretty while another not so; cause one man to be healthy and another to be diseased. Paanch Mahaprana, is the immediate force which governs the physical body and with this the mudras (movements of the hands & fingers). The relation of all five elements with their respective fingers means we can, at will, increase or decrease specific elements in the body, which also forms the basis of our chakras which as we know control the functioning of the physical body. But, before we move on to the kriya, it is essential to understand how these eleme...

SPIRITUAL EQUATION

When we talk of meditation, we are actually talking about hypnosis; the two words are synonyms, for those who understand both. It is dhyan which actually I am referring to. The present day human being is a devolved version of the beings of the vedic period, where dharma was foremost - even before self and therefore the pollution levels of air, water and soil were negligible. It is only when the human being began retracting his vision towards his individual self and finally, in today's yug, not looking beyond oneself, the environment responded and a plethora of diseases and problems of all kinds - mental, emotional and physical took gigantic and multi-faceted forms. The human race today is on the verge of extinction only due to its myopic vision of creation, limiting to oneself only - the self-destructing philosophy of I, me and myself...all this leading is to a low level of consciousness and vice versa, a vicious circle. The practice of dhyan is a clear exit route fro...

Guru to help evolve

'  ‪#‎ Guru‬  to Help  ‪#‎ Evolve‬ ' article in  The New Indian Express  yesterday... http://www.newindianexpress.com/…/…/07/25/article2936776.ece Guru to Help Evolve By  Yogi Ashwini Published:  25th July 2015 10:00 PM Last Updated:  24th July 2015 12:36 AM 0 Yogi Ashwini There is a pyramidal structure to creation, in which your position is determined by your desire. Every being is born with a specific desire and finds a guru matching it. As one holds the hand of the guru, he/she moves to that level of the pyramid and the desire manifests. The problem arises later, as the person usually gets caught in the desire and is unable to move further, and the downwards journey begins. The problem of kalyug is that our desires are embedded in the physical. So, when one goes in search of a guru, he/she measures him on physical yardsticks—how big is his ashram, how many factories does he own. Beyond that, one is unable...

Satsang: The Company You Keep

When you keep an iron nail next to a magnet, after some time, the nail starts exhibiting magnetism. If you pour hot water on ice, after some time the ice melts and the water becomes cold. Mythology speaks of Parasmani, the magical stone, the touch of which changes everything to gold.  A rotten fruit causes all other fruits in the basket to rot. The case of human beings is no different. An English proverb says that a man is known by the company he keeps. When two people spend a lot of time together, after some time they start becoming like each other. This happens because in every interaction that we have – with a person, animal, plant or thing -- there occurs an exchange of prana, breath. In the realm of ether and to a clairvoyant eye, this is visible as change in colour of the aura – yellow interacts with blue to become green; the same yellow when it interacts with black, becomes brown.  That is why our ancestors emphasised the importan...

Lord's Names in Vain

Mount Kailash is the source of shakti for the entire creation. At the time of the Vedic sciences, it corresponded to the north-east direction. With the change of yugas and the shift in the tilt of earth’s axis, it has assumed the north direction presently. In Vedic times, directions were given by looking at and measuring the congruence of energies. Directions played a pivotal role in the process of creation. You must have observed that all auspicious tasks are performed towards the north-east direction, which is called ‘ishan’. Interestingly, Ishan is another name for Lord Shiva. In Vedic times he had eight names—Sharva, Bhava, Rudra, Ugra, Bheem, Pashupati, Ishan and Mahadev, each representing various aspects and forces that play a pivotal role in the Universe. Rudra is the destructive form of Shiva. The specific mantra ‘Rudra-Rudra-Maharudra,’ which when practiced in the presence of a guru, stops the effect of future adversities. As one completes the sadhna of Rudra jaa...

Going beyond the intellect by Yog

Yog is being in union with yourself. It can’t be explained merely verbally. You need to go through certain experiences, which will bring you face to face with what is called atma sakshatkar—your true self.  Once it happens, you are in yog; and once you are in yog with yourself, you are a yogi. Yog can be of several kinds; you might choose to be in yog with fashion, with beauty, with sport. A practitioner of yog is in yog with himself or herself…  that’s a yogi. Yog is for evolution, the rest are all bhogis. A rakshas undergoes enormous tap (penance) to impress God. When God finally appears to grant him the desired boon, what does the rakshas ask for? Immortality.  Riches. Pleasures… Why? He is limited by his karma, so he cannot ask for anything beyond that. He cannot understand a world beyond. He is bound by his desires, he needs that experience, so he asks only for that. It’s wrong to think that the spiritual is divorced from the mat...
