The forgotten rishi

There would hardly be anyone who has not heard the Gayatri Mantra — Om bhur bhuvah svah, tat savitur varenyam, bhargo devasya dhimahi, dhiyo yo nah prachodayaat. Maybe a few thousand people also understand what it means. But there would be hardly anyone who knows of the rishi — Brahmarshi Vishwamitra — who got this mantra from the Divine. It is such a powerful mantra that Krishna called it the mother of all mantras — mahamantra — and Ram himself protected the yagyas of this great rishi. Hardly anyone would relate this mantra to Vishwamitra, who is mostly remembered for his love affair with Menaka. This is the first mantra of the Rigveda, the first veda, but for some reason, Vyas, who compiled the Vedas, put it later, like so many other mantras given by Vishwamitra. But why? Vishwamitra was a Kshatriya king with vast resources and power. However, after realising that physical powers and siddhis were just a trap of the physical world and tapo bal (the yogic power of penance)...

MAHASHIVRATRI

The night of Mahashivratri is a night of merger, a night of creation, a night of manifestation, a night to experience poornata and experience Shiv tattva. The word Shiv consists of shav, which means 'a dead body' and I, which is shakti — the force which runs creation. This force needs a vehicle or a body to manifest into, so shav becomes shiv. It is a day when the energy patterns resonate with the energy of Shiv. A powerful night to realise the poorna/infinite within and for manifestation of thought through specific mantras and kriyas as prescribed by ones Guru, and access the infinite force of Shiv. Shivratri celebrations at Dhyan Foundation ashram and centres on 24 Feb, 10pm onwards.  To attend, register at 9911185002/9953754934 Online registeration @  www.dhyanfoundation.com/mahashivratri-yagya.php #Shivratri -  http://www.dhyanfoundation.com/shivratri.php

GURU SHISHYA RELATIONSHIP, SHIV AND SATI

Yog is your relationship with your Guru . A shishya according to his capacity, establishes a relationship with the Guru, then it is the task of the Guru to make him/her rise above that relationship to a state where there are all relationships and yet no relationship. Sati, born to Daksha Prajapati, was the incarnation of Adi Shakti herself, and performed great austerities to win the Adi Guru Shiv himself, as her husband. Her penance was rewarded, her decision however was not well-received by her father, King Daksha. The king cut-off all communication with his daughter after marriage since he did not approve of Lord Shiv as his son-in-law. Once, a grand yagya was being conducted at King Daksha’s palace where all the gods and goddesses save Lord Shiv and Sati were invited. Sati requested Lord Shiv to accompany her for the yagya . Lord Shiv refused since they had not been invited and he advised her also not to go. Sati however insisted that a daughter does not need invitation...

Yog Is A Perfect Science That Deals In All Aspects Of Creation

Yog is a perfect science that deals in all aspects of creation, not just the physically manifested creation (vyakt) that you see around you but also the unmanifest creation (avyakt). Human being becomes a part of the vyakt as well as avyakt. From avyakt vyakt manifests and both are two parts of the same composite whole.  The siddhis and experiences of yog are real and so is the gyan of the yog sutras, tried and time-tested over thousands of year. With the efforts of the Honorable Prime Minister this phenomenal science has been marked on the world calendar. The need of the hour is to practice it in totality under a guru, as given by the vedic seer.  Let us pick up a basic aspect of healing and health of human body.  For a basic experience of the power and efficacy of the Vedic sciences and their effect on the body, one may start with practice of Sanatan Kriya, which is simple to do and can be easily incorporated in modern lifestyle, and whose ...

Save Monkeys-Feed monkeys -Camapaign By Dhyan Foundation

Today monkeys are at the hands of humans, their homes (the forests) have been destroyed to cater to human greed. With no trees and jungles to live and feed on, the monkeys have turned to human colonies for their needs. It is the dharma of human being to provide for animals, bhuta yagya or feeding the animals is among the five basic duties of a human as prescribed in vedas. Human instead are taking recourse to killing the monkeys – pelting them, electrocuting them and even shooting them down – giving them the title of ‘vermin’. Let’s not forget it was monkeys who fought on side of Lord Ram against the asurs. Killing them is equivalent to siding with the asurs. The repercussions would be similar to what happened to the asurs back then. By -Yogi Ashwini - Dhyan Ashram

THE ART OF SACRIFICE

The science of yagyas is as old as creation. Lord Brahma performed the first yagya. When he performed the yagya, he sacrificed a part of himself. From his sacrifice, manifested 33 devs and devis, who took charge of various aspects of creation. Lord Brahma became the Prajapati, responsible for physical creation. Lord Vishnu took upon the role of preserver. Lord Shiv became responsible for the journey back to the source. Yagyas are the means to nourish creation, to give back to creation and the various energies that run it, all that they have provided for. In every yagya, there is a havi (oblation), which is sacrificed or given back. This sacrifice is not of someone else, or of an animal; the sacrifice is of self or an aspect of self. Lord Brahma sacrificed a part of himself. Ravan too sacrificed his head nine times and only then he had Shiv darshan. Puranic texts abound with instances of men, devs and asurs performing yagyas. They sacrificed a part or desire of self. Yagyas are...

Owe it to the Guru

Gyan flows from guru to shishya, there is no book or kriya or mantra that can replace a guru. It is the guru-shishya parampara that has bestowed Bharatvarsha with the reservoirs of gyan in the form of the Upanishads. In fact, the term upanishad translates as ‘sitting near the guru’ and is formed from two words: ‘upa’ that is near, and ‘nishad’, which means to sit. Just sitting in the company of guru can reveal truths so profound and deep that even till date, many parts of the Upanishads are yet to be explored by modern scientists. Garbha Upanishad, the treatise on conception and growth of a child in the mother’s womb, is an example. Given at least 4,000 years ago by Rishi Pippalaada, the Garbha Upanishad details how conception takes place, factors that determine gender and traits of the baby, the environment inside the womb, the stages in development of embryo and what it goes through. It might come as a surprise, but in the womb itself, the being starts making promises and forg...

Simultaneous Yagyas worlwide on the occasion of Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti marks the day when sun appears to enter the zodiac of makar (Capricorn). Traditionally, the day coincided with the northward movement of sun having reached its southern most point, the phenomenon known as uttarayan in vedic philosophy. It was an extremely potent day, marking a transition in energy. According to vedic tradition the six months of uttarayana are a single day of the gods; the six months of dakshinayana are a single night of the gods. In Mahabharata, Bheeshma Pitamaha, chose to leave his body for the heavenly abode on it this day since it marks the onset of auspicious time.
