Why is karma important?

Karmas are the unifying factor in all religions. It is a law, not a theory. Even modern science accepts that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. What you give comes backs to you manifold. Whatever you are desiring, start giving it back to creation. If you distribute food, there will never be a shortfall of food in your house. If you distribute money, you will always have enough. If you teach, there will be no dearth of gyan for you. If you do not have the karmas, you cannot move on the path and even if you have karmas, without the focus on guru, you will not know which direction to move in and end up spending the fuel moving in various directions. Both become essential to make the journey beyond. Remember nothing is constant in creation, you either move up or go down, you can never be stationary. Presently we are living on earth, but if an...

Karma | Help yourself by helping one another

“A thought to aid Creation”, that’s how Yogi Ashwini of Dhyan Ashram, defines the not-for-profit organisation that brings together service-minded individuals, groups and organisations willing to help others across domains. Members of team DF, who come together with no membership or registration, contribute in cash, kind or service to the cause as per individual capacity without any remuneration and any form hierarchy. “Everyone’s a volunteer as we never believe in building assets. All that comes for charity, 100 per cent, is directed towards the cause,” Team DF elaborates. #WarmthForAll | Blanket distribution drive Insisting on karma or immediate action, this NGO believes that helping one another is equivalent to helping oneself. “Be it giving a blanket to a man sitting outside the house in cold or feeding a dog dying of hunger 2,000 miles away, the entire energy of Dhyan Foundation is focussed on action – no tall claims, no selling or advertising, no name or fame, ju...

Why do you feel someone's presence even after their death?

The body and the soul Recently, I received a mail from a lady who lost her young son in an accident. When she went to adopt another child, she felt as if her son came to her and told her, “Why do you need somebody else when I am already there?” At times, when she gets up at night, she feels as if her son is sleeping next to her. Friends and people around say that it is psychological and caused by the trauma and pain of losing her child, that it is in her mind. Even the psychologists say so. But no, it is not in the mind. Another one of my readers recently died of a heart attack, all of a sudden. His family wrote to me saying that they can feel him in the house. They feel he is crying and asking for food. They asked me if it was their mind playing tricks on them. Again, it is not the mind. If you think it is the mind, then you can try this experiment. Just think of somebody you do not know and who has gone and try to develop closeness with that person and try getti...

What should we learn from Lord Vishnu avatars?

Every avatar of Vishnu gave the gyan of the period. Karma is the fuel that propels a being on the journey of the spirit, good karma takes one to higher dimensions, bad karma takes him to worlds below. Connection with the guru catalyses this process, that is, the speed with which you go up or go down increases manifold. Krishna took birth to explain the path of karma only. If his purpose was just to kill the Kauravas, he could have done it from Vaikunth only, in a matter of seconds. What is difficult for Vishnu? But he took birth and also became a guru, to tell that if a being does good where he lands, and what happens if he does bad. Whoever had a connection with Krishna, whether good or bad, reached where they wanted to. If you are connected to a force (shakti), it is impossible that this doesn’t happen. Even if a paap atma begins to improve his karma, he can pull himself up. Karma has to be performed, rest is the domain of Krishna. There are two kinds of forces in...

How to climb the pyramid of evolution?

In the pyramid of evolution, there is plenty of space at the base but only a needlepoint space at the top. Only a few are entitled to reach the top. This entitlement is not decided by one’s looks or wealth or influence in the society, it is the result of the grace of guru which is earned by one’s karmas and one-pointed focus. This journey to the top of the pyramid is extremely easy and yet most difficult. Easy, because the guru shows you the door and also the path to the door, all you need to do is walk. Difficult because there is only space for a few, so there are energies at play that try to make the sadhaka take a turn. And these energies work at various levels and intensities. At a basic level, they manifest a desire for the sadhaka. A fraction of sadhakas are able to understand the temporariness of the pleasure and are able to keep themselves focused on the finality or the permanent, in the midst of all the pleasures. At the next level, sadhaka is endowed with ...

Significance of karma

Creation is cyclical in nature. There is an upward curve followed by a downward curve. We are presently on the downward curve of creation, the peak of Kalyug. If you look around, everything is on a decline or fast deteriorating. Let us take the health of humans as an example, if you compare your body and level of activity to that of your grandparents when they were your age, you would find, they had fitter and stronger bodies and were able to too much more work than yourself. Then if you go back a few hundred years and compare their bodies to those of their forefathers, a similar trend would be observed. In fact, there is a modern research which confirms that the brain size of humans is shrinking with time. Dog shelters by Dhyan Foundation Not just health, the quality of food, air, water and environment are all on a downturn. Forests are fast disappearing, foods are laden with toxins, water is contaminated, air is unbreathable, wildlife is thinning out. In general, ne...

Yog is the final frontier and the ultimate subject

There are so many things in our lives. We prioritise various things/aspects as per their relative importance. Whatever you give first preference in life, gives you first preference in return. For example, while with a group of friends, you bump into an old childhood friend and instead of greeting you first, he decides to greet the rest of the group. How would you feel? Will you still give preference to that person? No, he will no longer be your priority; instead, you will wait for the time when you can do the same to him. This holds true for everything, including the subject of yog. There are some students who stay up all night, a day before the exam to prepare for it and there are those who start months before. In fact, at times, they cut down on their television, outings, etc, and immerse themselves in studies... and it shows in their results.   Yog is the ultimate subject, there is nothing beyond it. It is the subject that will eventually not just te...

Mystic Mantra: Practice Yams and Niyams in totality to realise God

Make your connection so powerful that every time you undergo pain, He experiences it too and is forced to look at you and give you what you desire. If we look back in history, some of the most amazing scientific feats are attributed to Bharatvarsha, be it the concept of “shunya” or “purna”, mechanism of solar system, the law of gravitation, Pythagoras theorem, science of metallurgy and more, all were mastered by the Vedic seers. Some of the most wondrous pieces of architecture were built thousands of years ago by the Vedic masters and remain unparalleled in this age of modern technology. Not just this, the strength of their bodies and the abilities they possessed is unheard of in present times as are their descriptions of paranormal and direct interactions with gods and goddesses. Why is it then that so many invasions have taken place and so many times our temples have been looted and plundered, when we had such an advanced culture with so much knowledge? Take a...

Mystic Mantra: Laws of creation same for everyone

Lord Vishnu, the energy responsible for running creation, ensures that one is amply warned and reminded of his/her karma at various stages. Creation, and life, as a part of creation, is governed by karmas. Karmas decide what you are and where you are headed. Life runs in a spiral, the physical life is a downward moving spiral and spiritual life is an upward spiral. Physical life pertains to the gratification of five senses — a life of selfishness. Such a life paves way to entry to lower dimensions and lower levels of existence and more painful births. Spiritual life starts when one can feel the pain of others and works to reduce that pain — a move towards selflessness. Under the influence of maya, the glue that binds us to the physical, one forgets the path of karma and is driven into the whirlpool of destruction by living for just self. Lord Vishnu, the energy responsible for running creation, ensures that one is amply warned and reminded of his/her karma at variou...

Mystic Mantra: How to become a guru

The purpose of your life is experiencing the desire which brought you here. We take birth because of desire and for a lifetime we remain prisoners of this desire, forgetting the purpose of our life and taking the downward spiral by entangling ourselves in the various attractions of the physical world namely, relationships, career — the web of maya.  The purpose of your life is experiencing the desire which brought you here. And desire is unending, as it starts the cycle of karma until the soul decides that the purpose is over and it needs to go back home. You have to pay back for your every karma. While it’s fine to experience and enjoy the pleasures, it is also important to remember the purpose of your life and that for every pleasure you indulge in, there comes an associated pain. That maintains the balance in this creation. We are limited with our senses and the limitations of our mind cannot comprehend either our life’s purpose or the ways to ac...

Mystic Mantra: The journey from darkness to light

Gita says a life led only for self-gratification is a life of sin. A human body is the only dimension where one can move from darkness to light. Tamso maa jyotir gamaya. When you look at the night sky, what is it that catches your attention first? The moon. Why? Because it is the brightest. Sun, moon, stars are all gods and goddesses and the universe is full of them. Some of them are in the light, them you can see. Others are in darkness. When you go in deep states of dhyan you are able to interact with them, and you actually see the pits of darkness they are in and the pain they experience because we got this chance, a human body, to move from darkness to light. They also got a chance but lived a selfish life, hence are in darkness. Sanatan Kriya gives you the ability to see their dimensions. To get a first-hand experience of this darkness, sit in a closed dark cupboard. Ask someone to lock it from the outside and lock the room and do not open it for 3-4 hours. In that...

The Purpose of Yoga Is To Open Bondages

Patanjali Yogsutras were given 4500 years ago, they do not give a description of any asana . There is only one line –  sthir sukham asanam . That is a posture in which you are still and at peace. So any posture that can be maintained for long hours without movement or discomfort is an asana .  Sage Patanjali is called as the fountainhead of yoga . The purpose of asana is cleansing the body – nadis (etheric channels) and chakras (energy centres). 4500 years ago, there was no requirement for this cleansing, the thought, actions and environment were relatively pure and conducive to the practice of yoga. Therefore, no mention of asanas in Patanjali Ashtanga Yoga. With the passage of time, the bodies and minds started becoming polluted as did the environment, therefore various forms of yoga came in and around 500 years back, Hatha Yoga was formulated by yogis like Matsyendranath and Gorakhanath which describes certain physical postures to cleanse the nadis and chak...

Dhyana blocks mentations

There is a lady who has been doing dhyana for quite some time. Everyday without fail she would write to me seeking my blessings, so that she can move ahead in dhyana. Recently, I got a mail from her asking if I could help her find a camera that got lost recently. Such emails, especially from those who have been long practicing, set me thinking. Why do people do dhyana ? Most of the people who come to me either want to pass an exam, some of them desire a better job or relationship and the rest have a heart trouble or a factory that is about to shut. I know this because I keep getting your emails and as I read them, I wonder if I am really a Yoga Guru or a consultant to whom people come for solutions to their various problems. It is foolish to think that dhyana would make you immortal or help you recover a business loss or make your ailing heart hale and ...
