Yoga to bring desired changes in body

Yog taps into the power of consciousness, which simply put, is the ability to manifest thoughts and desires. Yogis and rishis have been known to possess radiant, glowing and youthful bodies till the very last, and they were able to do this because of the power of consciousness. In advanced stages of Sanatan Kriya , a practitioner is able to access this consciousness and so if he wants to shape his/her body, he can do so just by sitting with eyes closed. For a beginner, however, certain asans are detailed to direct the consciousness towards body remodelling. While rapid exercises and weight training put tremendous pressure on the heart and joints, these asans work on the principle of consciousness and do not damage the body. A strong spine is a prerequisite for any practice of yog, therefore we recommmend you learn and practice the kriyas and asans for spine strengthening at a Dhyan Foundation center near you, before attempting these asans. You are as young as straight is your spine

Spine is often referred to as the second brain. It controls the reflexes of the body and also links all the major organs of the body. It is said you are as young as straight is your spine is. In this series we will discuss a set of seven asans which are extremely beneficial for those with problems of back and spine, and even more for those, who want to stay away from these problems and take to higher practices of yog and Sanatan Kriya. Sadly, modern life style habits include long work hours, improper posture, high stress levels and modern fitness mantras which lay a great pressure on the back often resulting in life-long problems of spine. Here, I detail some preparatory asans from the Sanatan Kriya for a strong and supple spine. Sarp Asan : Lie on your stomach with heels joined. Interlock the fingers behind your back and rest the forehead on the ground. With your head and neck parallel to the ground, raise your upper body as you inhale...

BACK UP PLAN

“A straight back is vital for a healthy life,” our Vedic  rishis  believed in this maxim thousands of years ago. But why is the back so important? Spinal column is often referred to as the second brain of our body. If you look at our energy body you will find many channels,  nadis  (much like arteries) running all across it. They carry vital  prana  (life force) necessary for the proper functioning of the body. One of the main  nadis  is the  sushumna nadi  whose reflection is the spine. Any kink in this  nadi , that is, a curve in the spine, will cause stagnation of prana. This leads to imbalance and disease. Bear in mind that a weak back leads to several diseases that will keep you running to the doctor. A curved spine also causes the body to age, while one that is straight does just the opposite. Here we will learn a few  asanas  to strengthen your back. However, before beginning ensure that ...

BREAK THE AGE CAGE

If you happen to take a flight at night, and if you get a window seat - just look out of the window when you take-off, you will see thousands of tiny dots of light coming from thousands of houses that lie below and if you peep into any of those houses, you will find people not very different from one another, going through similar life experiences - each one is stressed, each one is disturbed by the same set of problems - health, finances, relationships and/or emotions. A Dhyan Foundation volunteer doing asan It is these stresses that weigh down an individual all through the life keeping him entangled in the everyday struggle and before one knows, the hair are grey, the spine is bent, the skin is shrivelled, the eyesight dim, the body is host to a plethora of diseases, and the stress...it only increases, never subsides- deteriorating the body further and faster. Psychological stress is in fact the prime factor expediting ageing in the body. Medically, the psychological stre...
