Why do you feel someone's presence even after their death?

The body and the soul Recently, I received a mail from a lady who lost her young son in an accident. When she went to adopt another child, she felt as if her son came to her and told her, “Why do you need somebody else when I am already there?” At times, when she gets up at night, she feels as if her son is sleeping next to her. Friends and people around say that it is psychological and caused by the trauma and pain of losing her child, that it is in her mind. Even the psychologists say so. But no, it is not in the mind. Another one of my readers recently died of a heart attack, all of a sudden. His family wrote to me saying that they can feel him in the house. They feel he is crying and asking for food. They asked me if it was their mind playing tricks on them. Again, it is not the mind. If you think it is the mind, then you can try this experiment. Just think of somebody you do not know and who has gone and try to develop closeness with that person and try getti...

How to climb the pyramid of evolution?

In the pyramid of evolution, there is plenty of space at the base but only a needlepoint space at the top. Only a few are entitled to reach the top. This entitlement is not decided by one’s looks or wealth or influence in the society, it is the result of the grace of guru which is earned by one’s karmas and one-pointed focus. This journey to the top of the pyramid is extremely easy and yet most difficult. Easy, because the guru shows you the door and also the path to the door, all you need to do is walk. Difficult because there is only space for a few, so there are energies at play that try to make the sadhaka take a turn. And these energies work at various levels and intensities. At a basic level, they manifest a desire for the sadhaka. A fraction of sadhakas are able to understand the temporariness of the pleasure and are able to keep themselves focused on the finality or the permanent, in the midst of all the pleasures. At the next level, sadhaka is endowed with ...

Guru Purnima

There is pyramidal structure to Creation, your position in the pyramid is determined by your desire. Every being is born with a specific desire and matching to that desire finds a Guru. As one holds the hand of the Guru, he/she moves to that level of the pyramid and the desire manifests. The problem begins after, as then, usually the person gets caught in the desire and is unable to move further. So he/she slips, and begins the downwards journey. The problem of kalyug is that our desires are embedded into the physical, physical is what the majority understands, so even when one sets on a search for Guru, he/she measures him on physical yardsticks – how big is his ashram, how many factories does he own, etc. Beyond that, one is unable to comprehend, missing out on the essence of what the Guru is. In present times one would give more respect to a Math’s teacher than a Guru, for the thought pattern is – ‘At least he will teach me something which...

Owe it to the Guru

Gyan flows from guru to shishya, there is no book or kriya or mantra that can replace a guru. It is the guru-shishya parampara that has bestowed Bharatvarsha with the reservoirs of gyan in the form of the Upanishads. In fact, the term upanishad translates as ‘sitting near the guru’ and is formed from two words: ‘upa’ that is near, and ‘nishad’, which means to sit. Just sitting in the company of guru can reveal truths so profound and deep that even till date, many parts of the Upanishads are yet to be explored by modern scientists. Garbha Upanishad, the treatise on conception and growth of a child in the mother’s womb, is an example. Given at least 4,000 years ago by Rishi Pippalaada, the Garbha Upanishad details how conception takes place, factors that determine gender and traits of the baby, the environment inside the womb, the stages in development of embryo and what it goes through. It might come as a surprise, but in the womb itself, the being starts making promises and forg...

Human desires and four vedas

'Human Desires and Four Vedas'  #MetroIndia   Yogi Ashwini

Focus Single-pointedly in silence

The mind and the physical brain control the human body. The brain and mind are controlled by the desire of the soul. Just close your eyes and see what is going on inside the brain Give it two minutes. You will find so many thoughts running inside you related to children, family, spouse, business, emotions... All these thoughts indicate desire of the soul. And it is because of these thoughts or desires that you are unable to go beyond human existence. All that is physical is temporary and what is temporary is painful hence the pain that you experience day-in-and-day-out, is in the pursuit of these desires. When the mind is engaged in worldly thoughts you cannot think of anything beyond because the mind can only do one and think of one thing at a time. Ayurveda says that you have five senses and of those only one sense is active at one time. They alternate so fast that you cannot make out, so when you are thinking, your thought process has to be one. Our bodies are programmed to achieve ...

Soul Desire

The mind and the physical brain control the human body and are controlled by the desire of the soul. What does a soul desire? Just close your eyes and observe for two minutes what is going on inside the brain. You will find so many thoughts running inside — children, family, spouse, business, emotions. These thoughts indicate the desire of the soul and it is because of these thoughts or desires that you are unable to go beyond the human existence and are unable to find peace and happiness. All that is physical is temporary and what is temporary is painful. When the mind is engaged in thoughts of the physical, it cannot think of anything beyond it, because at one point of time, it can only do and think of one thing. Even Ayurveda says that of the five senses, only one is active at one time. Words like ekagrata, ek tatva nirsantar abhyas, bhumadhya etc all indicate the path to success as a one-pointed focus. Sanatan Kriya details this. The problem starts when our desires divide....

You, Your Desires And Rebirth

You are what you desire. You take birth because you desire an experience. Depending on your desires, you take up a body; not the body you see in the mirror but what extends beyond to include the five sheaths – annamaya or physical body, pranamaya or life-force, manomaya, vigyanmaya and anandmaya. An ordinary being desires only the physical and exists at the level of the annamaya which in turn is controlled by the prana. The soul stays in the body till there is prana in it. What we call as death, is when there is no prana left in the body and the soul leaves the body.     There are many who have survived near-death experiences… healers could revive them because there was some prana left in the body and the soul took shelter in that prana. Healers then replenished the pranic body and restored the person back to health. But once the soul leaves the body, it cannot be brought back.     The soul might leave the body, but is...

Cycle of desire of many births

It is said you are what your desires are. No matter how evolved you think you are, your desires will reveal exactly what you are. The change of desires from the physical to the subtle, and from the self to entire creation is a sign of personal evolution. Reading scriptures or lecturing on them with a thought of “how much name, fame or money would I get” is a clear sign of being only at a basic level of evolution. Knowing nothing but desiring only the divine is a highly evolved state. Desire is basically made of: I want something. ‘I’ means the desire of the soul through the physical (the ego) or the instrument. ‘Want’ means to possess something and to possess because one knows that one doesn’t have it. ‘That’ is the energy manifested in the physical. Through the elements, the soul wants to possess this energy. This can be understood better by traveling a little into the past. When we were in our previous bodies, in our last life, we had experienced a lack of ‘something’ in li...

Mysterious world of the spirit

Spirituality, as the word suggests, is a dimension, which dwells in the world of the spirit or in simpler words, the etheric world. To understand this, first of all we must understand what the world of the spirit is. As per the ancients, there exists not just our physical body but beyond it various bodies, which are composed of a force or energy which is not solid but exists as a subtle force made up of various colour combinations. These bodies interpenetrate the physical body and could be called the “ether”. The study of this force in its various layers, aspects and dimensions is spirituality. By understanding this force, we understand the A to Z of the human being, evolution and finally, God. In the modern day world, the study of this science has been confused with certain religions or sects that are prevalent. A major myth about spirituality is that it is actually a part of a religion. Religion is a code of conduct prescribed by certain highly evolved souls who have...

Secrets of creation

YOGI ASHWINI. The Vedic masters gave us the concept of poorna or complete. Everything in this creation is a complete whole. Anything that comes out of this creation is complete and anything that goes back is also complete. You are a poorna ansh of this creation. A cell is a poorna ansh of you. All of you existed as a single cell for thirty minutes of your life. It is this cell which divided and multiplied to form your being. Vedic rishis called it the anu. It is now established that the cell divides only a limited number of times, what is referred to as the Hayflick limit, every new cell being weaker than older one. It is this progressive weakening of the cells that is termed as ageing in the body. But, how can something that is infinite culminate into a finite lifespan? Mathematics tells us that infinity divided by infinity is also infinity…Herein lies the secret to agelessness. While medical science has reported this phenomenon in case of human germ line and cancer cells, for a yogi ...

Journey of the soul

Soul is a unique pranic frequency. In unmanifested form it exists as part of Para Brahma, just as salt exists in ocean. Only when it desires a certain experience or a set of experiences does it choose to go through the cycle of karmas , birth and death. The basic reason or the root cause of the soul separating from the source is ego that recognises one’s existence as an individual. The ancients called it “asmita” , or “I”. This was the first step we took when we separated ourselves from the Divine Consciousness, which is Sukshma-iti-Sukshma , subtlest of the subtle, the unmanifested. Ego led the soul to realise that it is an individual and so came into existence the jeevatma . The individual consciousness combined with chitta forms jeevatma . Chitta or chetna is all pervading and resides in each one of us as buddhi . Buddhi is unlimited mind. It has the potential to become once again unlimited from the limited but it remains shadowed by manas the sheath, which blurs its vision, w...
