THE LORD OF ELEMENTS

The word 'tatva' translates as element, something which is created and not the creator. Everything that is created is composed of 16 tatvas. The first five–prithvi (earth), jal (water), agni (fire), vayu (air) and akash (ether)—pertain to the Bhuloka or earth. The sixth element is the Shiv tatva, which corresponds to the agya chakra, located at the centre of the forehead. Between the visshudhhi and agya, there are 11 more tatvas and yet the Shiv tatva is called the sixth tatva because Shiv is adi, anadi, anant, akhand... which is beyond the comprehension of buddhi. A normal human brain functions on 7-8 per cent efficiency, which is enough for experiences of physical world, but to experience Shiv tatva, activation of higher senses is required. There are three knots in the body—Brahm Granthi, Vishnu Granthi and Rudra Ganthi. It is easiest to open the Brahma Granthi; Vishnu Granthi also opens up relatively easily, but opening the Rudra Granthi is extremely difficult. Till it ope...

How you can prevent flu in winter

Winters have set in and this is the time when most people suffer from respiratory problems. Here we detail the Vedic method of doing Jal Neti which helps in cleansing the nasal passage and blocking the entry of allergens into the respiratory passage. A virus cannot be killed. However, by strengthening the immune system, it can be made nishkriya or ineffective and its spread be arrested by following the ancient techniques given by the Vedic Rishis. Here are three steps to follow, especially after returning from public places: 1. JAL NETI   Nasal cleansing. Take 500ml bearably warm water in a neti pot, add ½ tsp black/rock salt and a pinch of turmeric. Stand evenly and bending slightly forward tilt the head at 45 degrees angle towards left. Insert the nozzle of the pot into the right nostril. While breathing from the mouth, tilt the pot so that the water runs into the right nostril and flows out from the left. Repeat on the other side. Breathe normally afterwards. Sa...

The Water Principle

A lotus emerges in water, and is the seat of gods and goddesses. The first avatar of Lord Vishnu, who keeps the Creation going, was the matsya avatar, which emerged from water and guided Manu and the Saptrishis, for Creation to begin. Hence, all creation emerged from water and, it will go back into water. Every culture of the world talks about a massive flood, which brings the end of Creation—the mahapralay, before a new era begins. Our body, too, emerged from water. Water is the governing element of the swadishthan chakra, which is responsible for procreation. Similarly, when the body perishes, whatever is left after the last rites is returned to water. Seventy per cent of the earth is water; so is our body. Water is the element which contains all the other elements —prithvi, akash, vayu and agni. Such is the importance of the jal tattva in Creation and our body. The journey of the spirit begins from the mooladhar, through the swadishthan, manipoorak, anahad,...
