ANTI-AGEING – BREATHE IT RIGHT

If you trace a person from being an infant to a full grown adult, you will notice, in most cases, a progressive decline in the skin texture and complexion. A baby is glowing pink whereas most adults, even in their prime youth, are plagued with a diseased skin and dull complexion.  In the process of growing up, one is exposed to certain unnatural practices and stimuli from which it was kept protected in the womb. Take for example the simple act of breathing. If you observe how a baby breathes, you would notice a pronounced abdominal movement. The stomach inflates as it breathes in and deflates as it breathes out. If you observe your own breathing patterns, most likely, you will find it to be the opposite and with little or no abdominal movement…this breathing pattern of yours holds the key to the way you look and your present state of health. Abdominal breathing maximizes the up and down movement of the diaphragm and ensures that the lungs function at their optimal level, ...

Countering Obesity

The human body is a combination of cells, they combine in various permutations and form different systems responsible for all positive and negative effects which ultimately influence the whole body. A problem that plagues everyone today, irrespective of age is the need to lose weight. And so fad diets, liposuctions, excessive workouts and other alternative body-harming solutions/therapies are resorted to. What one needs to understand, is that obesity isn’t always the by-product of excessive food intake or unhealthy lifestyles, but also emotional congestion. According to Ayurveda, obesity manifests itself in different forms in your body depending on your predominant dosha. And while for some it’s easier to lose for others it gets very tough. A combination of prescribed herbs, asans and change in diets will only attend to the physical body, scratching only the surface rather than eradicating the root cause. Here I detail to you from my book, ‘Sanatan Kriya-Essence of Yoga...

Relief of Joint Pain

Cleansing the Etheric Channels by Yogi Ashwini

There are techniques in yoga that can regulate your breath-flow. They can keep you charged-up and disease-free all the time. Sanatan Kriya is one simple way of controlling the flow of your breath. In this article, we will learn an extremely potent pranayama to purify your mind, body and soul, the Nadi Shodhanam. Nadi, refers to the etheric channels in our body where the prana flows, Shodhan means purifying. Any congestion in the nadis, hinders the movement of prana.  The stagnation of prana leads to a plethora diseases. In Nadi Shodhanam, the Eda (cold nadi, on the left side of Sushumna) and Pingla (hot nadi, on the right side of Sushumna) work as churning rods, creating heat through friction at the base of the spine, this heat then rises through the Sushumna and from there is spread across the body to cleanse the various channels, remove heaviness, congestion, and also avidya...making the body far more receptive to subtler energies and prana.   Steps for Nadi Shodhn...

ANTI-AGEING | THE POWER CENTER

According to the great epic Ramayana, in the battle between Lord Rama and Ravana, Ravana appeared to be invincible despite repeated attacks by Rama and was killed only when Rama pierced his navel with an arrow. The navel corresponds to the seat of power in the body, the manipoorak chakra that makes up for any weakness and directly controls the digestive system in the body. Ayurveda maintains that death begins in the colon and the modern science agrees with this fact. Hence, in order to ensure a long and healthy life, it is of utmost importance to keep the colon healthy. Realizing this, today the market is flooded with various techniques and equipment to ensure the same. One of these is the hydrocolon therapy. The therapy with the aid of certain instruments washes the intestines with saline water to flush the toxins out of the system. However, being a synthetic process it entails certain side effects such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, discomfort, cramps and infection. Du...

To do or not to do

Yogi Ashwini points out the various ways by which the concept of power yoga is harmful to the body and lists the beneficial ones. Yog is a practical subject the results of practices are tangible and physical. These days one hears of yoga courses, which claim to make you fit and healthy through certain postures and breathing exercises directed at the physical. While one does feel good after doing such practices, their effects are limited to the physical body and do not touch upon the root of the problem. As a result, the ‘problem’ reappears in some other shape or form and once again one starts looking for a solution and more courses. What you lose in the process, is not the heaviness and negativity, but your bank balance.  Yog is not about twisting and turning your body or breathing abnormally, it does not tie you to any particular religion, ritual, lifestyle or diet. Yog sets you free and this can definitely not be given by one who is himself tied in the bondages of...

Balancing at Fingertips

This is the process of guru and  gyan. What they wrote is their ex perience of yog. Instead of getting carried away in the beauty of someone else’s experience, think about what your experience has been? That is the truth for you."
