The Yoga Revolution

http://m.speakingtree.in/spiritual-blogs/masters/science-of-spirituality/the-yoga-revolution Patanjali Yogsutras were given 4500 years ago and do not give description of any asana. There is only one line - 'sthir sukham asanam'. That is, a posture in which you are still and at peace. So any posture that can be maintained for long hours without movement or discomfort is an asana. Sage Patanjali is called the Fountainhead of Yoga. The purpose of asana is cleansing the body – nadis (etheric channels) and chakras (energy centres). 4500 years ago, there was no requirement for this cleansing, the thought, actions and environment were relatively pure and conducive to the practice of Yoga. Therefore, no mention of asanas in Patanjali Ashtanga Yoga. With passage of time, the bodies and minds started becoming polluted as did the environment, therefore various forms of Yoga came in, and around 500 ye...

Pranayamas

Yogi Ashwini Modern science believes oxygen is life and is an indispensable energy. Our Rishis have proved that it is not the breath but prana that is responsible for life in the body. Our health and vitality, emotional and financial states, joys and maladies, diseases and glowing health are all dependent on the frequency of prana that vibrates in and around us. The complete system of our pranic body of the chakras, nadis and koshas is dependent on the prana that we are receiving from the environment around us. Pranayama is a salutation to this prana. It is said by the great rishis that the human body can survive without food for months, without water for weeks, without air for hours, but not even for a nanosecond without the vital prana. But to be able to retain the prana, the nadis and chakra in the pranamaya kosha should be clean and pure without blockages and the prana should move freely. Only then can the vital prana be held. Disease manifests in the human body as...

Process of Awakening

When a sadhak follows the path of yoga he/she ties himself/herself to a certain regime. By following this set routine over a period of time the sadhak starts evolving. In the physical plane we can identify certain dormant centers in the brain which start awakening and becoming sensitive to subtler stimuli which we are not able to identify in our current states i.e. the higher areas of the brain get activated, which were considered dormant or those were not used in the day to day acts of normal physical life. But this stage arises by following the eight-fold path of yoga comprising of Yam, Niyam, Asana, Pranayam, Pratyahar, Dharana, Dhyan and Samadhi. By following the practice of the five Yamas and five Niyams, the path of yoga becomes clear. The impediments in the progress of the practitioner or sadhak get removed leading the sadhak to the next stage, which involves the purification of the physical and the etherical self of the individual. We all are divine beings going through...

Journey of the soul

Soul is a unique pranic frequency. In unmanifested form it exists as part of Para Brahma, just as salt exists in ocean. Only when it desires a certain experience or a set of experiences does it choose to go through the cycle of karmas , birth and death. The basic reason or the root cause of the soul separating from the source is ego that recognises one’s existence as an individual. The ancients called it “asmita” , or “I”. This was the first step we took when we separated ourselves from the Divine Consciousness, which is Sukshma-iti-Sukshma , subtlest of the subtle, the unmanifested. Ego led the soul to realise that it is an individual and so came into existence the jeevatma . The individual consciousness combined with chitta forms jeevatma . Chitta or chetna is all pervading and resides in each one of us as buddhi . Buddhi is unlimited mind. It has the potential to become once again unlimited from the limited but it remains shadowed by manas the sheath, which blurs its vision, w...
