Yog is the road to pure bliss

Fulfilment of desires is not evolution. It is sadhana which involves changes within and leads to ultimate freedom. Ayurveda says that the body is composed of three doshas—Vat, Pitt and Kapha. The term ‘dosha’ translates as a defect or an impurity. That is, the body is inherently impure. There is no such thing as negative or positive because everything around that is physical, is bound by time. It is bound to end, and the time for it to end is decided the moment you get it, irrespective of whether that thing is good or bad.  The biggest pain is not in losing something but in getting something which is dear to you. The dearer a thing is to you, the more expensive it proves to be, as that much more pain it will cause to you when it leaves you. The day you get something, that day itself the pain that comes with it is also decided. Similarly the day you take the body, the doshas that come along with it are also determined because the meaning of the body is that which is...

Mystic Mantra: Practice Yams and Niyams in totality to realise God

Make your connection so powerful that every time you undergo pain, He experiences it too and is forced to look at you and give you what you desire. If we look back in history, some of the most amazing scientific feats are attributed to Bharatvarsha, be it the concept of “shunya” or “purna”, mechanism of solar system, the law of gravitation, Pythagoras theorem, science of metallurgy and more, all were mastered by the Vedic seers. Some of the most wondrous pieces of architecture were built thousands of years ago by the Vedic masters and remain unparalleled in this age of modern technology. Not just this, the strength of their bodies and the abilities they possessed is unheard of in present times as are their descriptions of paranormal and direct interactions with gods and goddesses. Why is it then that so many invasions have taken place and so many times our temples have been looted and plundered, when we had such an advanced culture with so much knowledge? Take a...

Yog is a beautiful journey, but you are the one who needs to make it

Yog begins at the feet of the guru. Guru carves out a path and to get that experience, you need to walk it. Roaming around the guru, showering him/her with compliments or trying to impress him/her with your power, looks or wealth is redundant. For if the guru has the state of these things (physical creation), how will he/she take you beyond? And if he/she has traversed the journey of yog, then to reach him/her, you have to walk that path. Only then will you have the darshan of his/her swaroop. Whether your vehicle is a broken Fiat or a Phantom or a jet-plane (the vehicle here indicates your body), if you keep admiring it in the mirror, you will stay where you are. The mirror does not traverse, nor will the body. Even a broken Fiat can reach, if it walks the path of guru. Otherwise, you can keep polishing the car, change its upholstery and tyres, put various kinds of fuel, nothing will happen. One day the car (body) will fade away, as will the mirror. Slowly the car will ...

Guru Purnima Special: Importance of Guru

Guru is the giver of gyan, the one who puts you on the path of experience and takes you beyond, beyond the realm of five senses. He is not someone in a fancy robe, with a beautiful beard, who dances around trees and promises to cure your illness by breathing like a monkey, of course after emptying your pocket. That is an entrepreneur, who has devised an innovative marketing strategy for him to grow physically. Someone who is himself tied to the pleasures of the senses cannot take you beyond, which is the ultimate purpose of yog. Guru is not the physical body, it is an energy through which gyan flows into the shishya, yet it is important for the Guru to be in body. You get a Guru as per your karmas and shreni, it is not necessary that, who was the Guru of your forefathers will be your Guru as well. Whoever can transfer the experience of yog to you is your Guru.  Guru Poornima is an extremely powerful day, merely being in your Guru's presence can have amazing effects on your evol...

Yogi Ashwini, guiding light of Dhyan Foundation

CHOOSE YOUR SADHNA PATH

The purpose of creation is experience, each one of us has taken birth because of desire for a specific experience. Depending on that desire, guru carves out the path of sadhna for you and gives you the mantra to invoke the shakti or dev which is responsible for it. Sadhaks may be put into three broad categories—Brahma sadhaks, Vishnu sadhaks and Shiv sadhaks. It is the path they walk that differentiates one sadhak from the other, and no path is higher or lower than the other. The path of Brahm is that of aiding Lord Brahma in the process of creation. That of Vishnu sadhaks is to assist Lord Vishnu in the preservation and maintenance of creation. And, the Shiv sadhaks tread the path of Lord Shiv, the journey back." Yogi Ashwini Lord Brahma gave birth to physical creation. The task of ensuring its smooth functioning was entrusted upon Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiv paved the path of the journey back. The purpose of creation is experience, each one of us has taken birth because of de...

Crisis of devotion

Sometime ago, the world celebrated the birth anniversary of   Vivekananda. Born as Narendranath Datta on 12 January 1863, he is alive in hearts and minds of thousands even 113 years after his death; his thoughts revolutionising the lives of countless seekers till date. In the very first meeting, his Guru Ram Krishna Paramahans cleared Vivekanand’s doubts about God by making him experience subtler worlds and dimensions, just by touch. In subsequent meetings there was tran sfer of shakti, revelation of his purpose and the acquisition of the gyan of creation. Vivekanand stayed with Ram Krishna ji till his end, when his guru showed him the path of service (seva). Soon after Ram Krishna ji left his body, Vivekanand formed an organisation to carry forward the thought of his guru and dedicated his life to the cause. This organisation was called not Swami Vivekanand Trust, but was named the Ramakrishna Mission. What Vivekanand did was not to serve his ego, but...

Night of Shiva's Power

Close your eyes. You will open yourself to a vast limitless expanse—the chittakash. Here yogis and sadhaks manifest the unmanifested in deep states of dhyan. How does one experience a limitless expanse between a closed eyelid and the eyeball? It is the first experience of Shiva, which was everything and yet nothing. He is the sum total of opposites—creation being bipolar. Add up the opposites, and the result is zero. Shiva is both purna and shunya. In the higher reaches of Himalayas  sit sadhus in silence, wearing nothing. Yet people from afar undertake arduous journeys  to seek  fulfilment of their desires. How can one, who seemingly has nothing, grant something to those who seemingly have everything, and are unable to acquire? The answer lies in consciousness and the experience of Shiva tatva; of infinity. The higher the level of consciousness rises, the closer he/she is to accessing the infinite, and the greater his/her ability to manifest the ph...

Spirituality and Humanity: Missing Components of Business

How does one express spirituality? The most basic way is through one's deeds. These deeds involve being a better human being who is sensitive towards other human beings, that is, being humane. This is the guiding theme of this year's World Confluence on Humanity, Power and Spirituality. Organised by the Srei Foundation, Business Economics and the Institute of Inspiration and Self-Development, the annual World Confluence, has since the last four years, sought to bring together people from different career paths onto a common platform whose hallmark is spirituality through service. Eschewing doctrinaire and divisive interpretation of religion, the World Confluence seeks a commingling of the beliefs and practices of different faiths, which elevate and empower the mind, soul and body. The purpose is to harmonise thoughts with actions, and bring unity rather than create divisions among people of different faiths; the binding factor is the expression of spirituality through h...

It's how the divine asks us to change

This was nearly 15 years ago, we were travelling to the higher reaches of Badrinath and on the way back we went into a restaurant just outside the temple. We asked for some cow milk and told the owner to be doubly sure that it was cow milk and not powdered milk; he assured us and went into the kitchen. We waited for 10 minutes and then I decided to take a look in the kitchen. Inside to my surprise, I saw him boiling water and adding powdered milk to it! On confronting, he cheekily replied, “Now where do I get cows here?” I told him that if you people won’t send your cows to the butchers then you would have them and your character would be devik and not asuric, for this is what you people have become. How can you fool people at the dham of Vishnu? Another time on my visit to Kedarnath, I found families thronging the shrine in a picnic and holiday mood, filmi songs blaring and card parties galore. Inside the dharamshalas surrounding the shrine, people dressed as Shiva waving their tr...
