Mystic Mantra: Achieving dhyan through karma

There is a lady who has been doing dhyan for quite some time. Every day without fail she would write to me seeking my blessings, so that she can move ahead in dhyan. Recently, I got an email from her asking if I could help her find a camera that got lost recently. Such emails, specially from those who have been practising it for long, set me thinking. Why do people do dhyan? It is foolish to think that dhyan would make you immortal. Everything in creation is a combination of five elements, including your body. You are tied to this creation with those five elements through specific centres in the body called chakras .  When you sit for dhyan, you get plenty of thoughts. The thoughts that come to you during dhyan indicate the chakra or sense with which you are tied to creation. That thought will keep coming back to you and when that thought comes, only the lower regions of brain (that control the five senses) will be active. You can have only five kinds of thought...

Vedanta: Silence mind at work

Article by Yogi Ashwini in Speaking tree http://www.speakingtree.in/public/spiritual-articles/lifestyle/vedanta-silence-mind-at-work The  mind  and brain control the human body and they, in turn, are controlled by the desire of the soul. Just close your eyes and see what is going on inside the brain.… You will find so many thoughts related to children, family, spouse, business, emotions.…     All the thoughts indicate desire of the soul. And it is because of these thoughts or desires that you are unable to go beyond human existence. All that is physical is temporary and what is temporary is painful.… The pain that you experience day in and day out, is in the pursuit of these desires. When the mind is engaged in worldly thoughts, you cannot think of anything beyond,… because the mind can only think of one thing at a time.Thoughts of the physical  world  tie you to the physical world, your thoughts are dissipated and the force of your con...

De-stress with yoga

When you sit with your eyes closed, you will notice that your mind is clouded with multiple thoughts — thoughts about the body and health, about job/business and finances, parents, spouse and kids, thoughts about future, thoughts of things gone by. These thoughts translate as stress and weigh down an individual all through life , keeping him/her entangled in the everyday struggle. And before one knows, hair turns grey, spine gets bent, skin is shrivelled, eyesight gets blurred, the body is host to a plethora of diseases, and stress never subsides, thus deteriorating the body further and faster. Psychological stress is, in fact, the prime factor expediting ageing in the body. Stress followed by disease and ageing is because of avidya / agyan . It is impossible for a normal person to get vidya / gyan of reality and become stress-free. A normal person is so tied up that he does not have the time or the inclination for anything beyond. Sanatan kriya and Shanmukhi...

Unbearable lightness of God

Vedic civilisation and culture—the oldest of all civilisations—has proved its supremacy over all other existing cultures by virtue of its concepts and superior thought process. When the whole world was living in jungles and leading a nomadic life of hunting and gathering, people living in this part of the planet had developed a highly evolved culture. Their thought process was so unique that it encompassed within it, entire creation; there was no aspect of the physical as well as the spiritual world that was left unattended and un-detailed. Till date, the human mind has not been able to comprehend most of the philosophies and concepts given by the Vedic seers. In this article, I invite the reader to delve into a few of these concepts and understand how deep and how superior their thought process was. Let’s start with the idea of God. God, for the Vedic seer, was an energy which is very light and subtle. Light and subtle, in this context, does not mean that it has no weight; ...
