Guru Purnima

There is pyramidal structure to Creation, your position in the pyramid is determined by your desire. Every being is born with a specific desire and matching to that desire finds a Guru. As one holds the hand of the Guru, he/she moves to that level of the pyramid and the desire manifests. The problem begins after, as then, usually the person gets caught in the desire and is unable to move further. So he/she slips, and begins the downwards journey. The problem of kalyug is that our desires are embedded into the physical, physical is what the majority understands, so even when one sets on a search for Guru, he/she measures him on physical yardsticks – how big is his ashram, how many factories does he own, etc. Beyond that, one is unable to comprehend, missing out on the essence of what the Guru is. In present times one would give more respect to a Math’s teacher than a Guru, for the thought pattern is – ‘At least he will teach me something which...

There’s more to animal rights: NGOs

NEW DELHI: With cases of  vigilantism over cow  going up, a number of animal rights NGOs have become vocal over the issue of  gau rakshaks  taking the law into their own hands. While these groups have been trying to highlight cases of illegal cow trafficking through the police, they say the recent attack by a vigilante group makes things tougher for them. Dhyan Foundation ,  one such  NGO , has been working against illegal smuggling of cows and camels across Delhi-NCR region which has led to high volatility on the ground recently. The group, along with PFA, has been holding 'peaceful car rallies' across the capital for the past few months to highlight the issue of illegal trafficking of animals. "Such attacks by vigilante groups makes it more difficult for NGOs that are trying to sort things out peacefully. We got to know about a couple of cases recently but we approached the police so that the violators could be caught through the course of law. ...

Dhyan Foundation volunteers save a cow out of canal in Ludhiana

Two young volunteers of NGO Dhyan Foundation on Saturday saved life of a cow by pulling her out of the bed of the Sidhwan canal here. An abandoned cow fell into the canal near Sigma College of Nursing here. For hours, she was not able to get out on her own as it was difficult to climb the several feet high concrete slope of the canal’s bank. The case was brought to the notice of the Dhyan Foundation whose volunteers Dushyant and Mithun reached the spot. Both rushed to the spot and tried to seek help to pull her out. The help of the police was also sought which did not come about.  Both volunteers finally arranged a rope and pulled the cow with it after a long struggle. Both also sustained minor injuries in the process. “We are taught by Yogi Ashwini Ji to selflessly help the weak and those in distress, be it a human being, animals, bird or even plants which fall within out sight,: said Dushyant, a young entrepreneur and DF volunteer . The articl...

REAL AND UNREAL SADHANA

Sadhana is a private affair between you and your Guru. No one can interfere in this relationship. There are two kinds of sadhana. The first is performed for show and emotional satisfaction. Here you are taken to beautiful places, you meet nice people who shower praises upon you, you are repeatedly told how good you are and, a fee is charged to pay for the services you are getting. The other kind of sadhana is where you have complete desire to achieve in the spiritual world. You are told of your shortcomings. What you pay here is your dedication and sacrifice of physical things. In the former, you have teachers and masters. In the latter, you have a Guru . The former takes you in circles and the latter evolves you out of the human body. In the former, you sing and dance and enjoy the beauty of the world. The praises that are showered upon you are directly proportional to your position in the society. In the latter, you are ...

VEDIC MARTIAL ARTS

VEDIC MARTIAL ARTS DEMONSTRATION BY YOGI ASHWINI When we speak of martial arts, common images which come to mind are high-flying kicks, breaking bricks with bare hands, beating up several people within seconds, killing someone with one knock. Thoughts of aggression often accompany while one thinks or speaks of martial arts. But this is all that one sees in movies often made in the West. Martial Arts originated in the East, it’s the movies which originated in the West. What makes Vedic Martial Arts different?  Building muscles is no extraordinary task and can easily be achieved in the gym. Building character along with muscles, developing the mind along with learning self-defense techniques, being aware of your surroundings at all times, being able to handle an intimidating situation while being calm, having aggression which is controlled and most importantly being humble and having humility towards all aspects of creation...that is martial arts in its intended f...

LIFE IS AN EXPERIENCE

"It is the desires that tie one to the individual consciousness. Once these are removed, the being becomes one with the supreme consciousness" -  Yogi Ashwini Love is the four-letter word on which epics have been composed, movies based, songs and poems attributed. And yet, if you look at any great love story, you will find that the end is always tragic; the story ends with the separation of the lovers. The truth is that there is no such thing as love, and realising this is enlightenment. Every person in the world is looking for love, yet there is hardly anyone who is aware of it. Today one spends a lifetime in the pursuit of the physical; lust and possession are mistranslated as love. Love actually is in letting go of the people you love, to give them the freedom to live their own; it lies in sacrifice and being there for them unconditionally without expecting anything in return. In the realm of energy, the colour pink translates as love. If you look around you wi...

SANDS OF TIME

Do you know when Suraiyya died? Do you know when Dev Anand died? Do you know when K L Sehgal died? Or when Rajesh Khanna died? Or do you remember any incidents from their lives after their heydays had passed? If you know any of the above, then it is pointless reading the thoughts below because then they are nonsense. But if you don’t, then these thoughts might turn out life changing for you…so please memorise them. At the peak of their careers each one of the above used to go around with security that was not even given to the politicians of that time, and I am talking about just 40 or so years back. It was said about Dev Anand that there was a court order prohibiting him from wearing a black suit because when he used to wear one and walk on the road, women would commit suicide in the frustration of not having been able to meet him. Suraiyya could not go to her movie premiers as even security could not keep fans at bay and they would mob her. None of the above paid...

YOGA FOR DIABETES-PART 2

In the previous article we understood how and why a disease manifests in the body and how one can cure it. The Ayurvedic remedy for diabetes was detailed, that needs to be taken every day along with certain yogic asans that will help control the rising sugar levels in the body. A combination of Ayurveda, Asans and Mantra chanting will have an immediate effect on controlling diabetes. ASAN It is important that the breath rate and heart rate do not shoot up while performing asans. But since these are repetitive asans, there is a possibility of a slight increase in the breath rate while performing them. Therefore it is vital to perform them in tandem with Sanatan Kriya to balance out or decrease the number of breaths taken overall. It is advised you learn the practices at a Dhyan Foundation centre near you. ·         VEERBHADRA ASAN – Stand straight. As you inhale, slowly bend forward keeping your spine straight...
