SHED YOUR COLONIAL MINDSET OVER COWS

The British punctured our roots, killed cows and poisoned our minds, and left behind generations of ‘brown Englishmen’, writes  Yogi Ashwini Macaulay in his infamous ‘Minute’ in 1835 changed the course of how Bharat (or India as we call it now) would be perceived by its countrymen. He planned to uproot the Indian culture through English education. He advocated education for a selected class and wanted to create eminent clerks to serve the lower cadres in British administration, “Brown Englishmen”. The fact that most of us find it perfectly normal to address him, who ravaged our culture, as “Lord” Macaulay and find the idea of cow, which nourishes us, being our mother or goddess absurd, is a direct indicator of the fact that Macaulay succeeded in brainwashing us. A brainwash to the extent that no matter what we write here or whatever stats we share, the Brown Englishmen, even if they make it through the end of this article, would still not find anything wrong in killing co...

There’s more to animal rights: NGOs

NEW DELHI: With cases of  vigilantism over cow  going up, a number of animal rights NGOs have become vocal over the issue of  gau rakshaks  taking the law into their own hands. While these groups have been trying to highlight cases of illegal cow trafficking through the police, they say the recent attack by a vigilante group makes things tougher for them. Dhyan Foundation ,  one such  NGO , has been working against illegal smuggling of cows and camels across Delhi-NCR region which has led to high volatility on the ground recently. The group, along with PFA, has been holding 'peaceful car rallies' across the capital for the past few months to highlight the issue of illegal trafficking of animals. "Such attacks by vigilante groups makes it more difficult for NGOs that are trying to sort things out peacefully. We got to know about a couple of cases recently but we approached the police so that the violators could be caught through the course of law. ...

Ordeal of 49 camels ends, Patna HC orders release on plea of Dhyan Foundation

Patna, May 1, 2017: (By Raju William) On the plea of Dhyan Foundation (DF) - a spiritual, charitable organisation working for animals' welfare, High Court of Patna has ordered to release 49 camels immediately to it for their rehabilitation. DF had waged a sustained 5-month long legal battle led by Yogi Ashwini for the release of the seized camels and handover their custody to it for their safety and rehabilitation. Originally, 61 camels were rescued from the hands of animal smugglers who, in cahoots with official/administrative machinery, were illegally transporting them for sale and subsequent slaughter from Rajasthan to Bangladesh. The HC also directed that DF would shift the released camels back to safety in Rajasthan and the State-respondents would fully cooperate in shifting of the camels.   In a statement, DF spokesperson said that on November 28, as many as 61 camels were seized by Circle Officer from Khagra Mela from the animal smugglers and upon ...
