The different layers of creation

The physical comprising of the five elements is only one layer to it. As you progress in the sadhna of yog, the various layers of creation unfold in front of you and you realise that the physical, which majority spend their life and birth pursuing, is just a small aspect of creation, a layer which is directly controlled by the world of ether, which is the subject of yog. Most of us have grown up listening to stories from Ramayan, of the noble king Ram, his virtuous wife Sita and devoted brother Lakshman. Diwali, as most understand, is the day when these three returned to Ayodhya after an exile of 14 years. In this article, we will highlight how it is perceived in the realm of energy. Lord Ram is a reflection of the energy of Preserver (Vishnu), Devi Sita an incarnation of his force (Goddess Lakshmi) and Lakshman is a reflection of the Sheshnaag, which is where the two energies rest. These three shaktis manifested in physical creation (bhulok) for a purpose, to uphold dhar...

Pain: The only route to divine

I meet and interact with seekers from all over the world. Many a time I get to hear that ‘I went to this place to search for God’ or ‘I performed this prayojan to manifest God’ and yet the experience of God evades. It is a common story. So for the benefit of all those and more such people who are wondering why the experience had evaded them, I am penning down this article. Every aspect of Vedic knowledge has to be real for you, you have to understand completely before moving to the next step. You are limited in the body with your five senses, and they can only perceive something made of five elements. That doesn’t mean you cannot perceive or converse with God. Conversations happen as you form a connection with the Divine. The reason I take spiritual aspirants to the Himalayas is because there  are certain places on this earth, such as the Himalayas, which are vortices of energy and conducive to the spiritual growth of an aspirant. The experience of God, however, lies within. ...

Guru Purnima Special: Importance of Guru

Guru is the giver of gyan, the one who puts you on the path of experience and takes you beyond, beyond the realm of five senses. He is not someone in a fancy robe, with a beautiful beard, who dances around trees and promises to cure your illness by breathing like a monkey, of course after emptying your pocket. That is an entrepreneur, who has devised an innovative marketing strategy for him to grow physically. Someone who is himself tied to the pleasures of the senses cannot take you beyond, which is the ultimate purpose of yog. Guru is not the physical body, it is an energy through which gyan flows into the shishya, yet it is important for the Guru to be in body. You get a Guru as per your karmas and shreni, it is not necessary that, who was the Guru of your forefathers will be your Guru as well. Whoever can transfer the experience of yog to you is your Guru.  Guru Poornima is an extremely powerful day, merely being in your Guru's presence can have amazing effects on your evol...

MEDITATION IS NOT DHYAN

There are three states of mind, which modern sciences acknowledge — the conscious, unconscious and subconscious states. The fourth state, which science does not acknowledge is the super conscious state or turiya state. There is confusion between meditation, hypnosis and dhyana. They are thought to be the same, but vedic rishis had experiences of subtler dimensions. Mantras enabled them to see images of devas and devis. With their help, they could manifest in the (unreal) physical world objects like various weaponry, heal the diseased, bestow physical attributes, wealth…and the like. This was the state of dhyana which they were in,the turiya state, and so they could do all this. In dhyana, there is no pratyaya or object of focus. There is purna, or shunya. The five senses are at rest. You don’t focus on anything. You are everywhere, yet you are nowhere. You let go.  Depending on your karmas, divinity takes over you and the guru guides you to higher realms and into reality. Siddhi...

Yoga for a healthy mind and body

More often than not, answers to all our questions lie in things around us; all we need is an observant eye. Let us observe the sun. Ever wondered what gives it the magnificent glow and attraction? What is so magnetic about it that all the planets revolve around it? Modern science identifies the sun as the ultimate source of energy. How can a single entity be able to channelize such enormous amounts of energy? It is amazing how we are oblivious to this phenomenal presence of sun most of the times. And yet it rises and sets everyday, immune to our ungratefulness, lighting up the lives of millions. That's the nature of sun. Alternately we may say sun is in tune with nature. Quite simply put, sun is in Yog . Yoga is not about complicated twists and turns of the body. A yogi is not bound by age, diet, lifestyles or rituals. Yoga sets you free. The purpose of Yoga is to still the thoughts from desires,  chitt vritti nirodh , through certain purifications as prescribed in the Sanatan Kr...

Guru's Divine Nectar

If you visit any of the “spiritual centres” in India today, you will find these “shops” selling innovative and, at times, unrecognizable forms of yoga and Vedic sciences. I recently visited one such place and was amazed to read the promises made on the boards that hung outside. The streets were filled with aspirants from all over the world who were eager to learn the ancient Vedic sciences and it was pitiable to see what we had to offer to them in return. The place I visited was the tapobhoomi of some great yogis and rishis, and their ashrams are still there. Right outside one such ashram there was a huge garbage dump where stray animals were feeding on plastic and toxins, saffron-clad men sat at the side of the road and struck deals with the tourists for a spiritual experience. If those evolved souls were to visit their own ashrams today, they sure would be relieved that they left long back... At the Maha Kumbh underway at Prayag, another spiritual centre where dro...
