Dhyan Can't be Bought

There are three states to the mind, which the modern sciences acknowledge—the conscious, the unconscious and the subconscious. The fourth state, which the modern science does not acknowledge, is the super conscious state or the turaiya state. There is confusion between meditation, hypnosis and dhyan. The majority of the modern sciences believe them to be the same. But the Vedic rishis differ here. They had experiences of the subtler dimensions, and mantras and images of the various devs and devis were visible to them. Not just visible, but with their help they were able to manifest in the physical world (which I call the unreal) various weaponry, health to the diseased, physical attributes, wealth etc. This was the state of dhyan which they were in, the turaiya state, and hence were able to do all this. In dhyan, there is no pratyaya (an object of focus). There is poorna, or you may call it shoonya. The five senses are at rest and made to rest. You don’t focus on anything. You ar...

Beating Exam Stress the Right Way

This is a fairly common event that takes place every year during exam season. An adolescent girl sets a very high standard securing highest ranks in all the exams. She is egged on by her parents and continues to push herself harder. During her pre-board exams she suddenly suffers a serious breakdown and has to be admitted to the hospital and given medicines. “This girl was lucky as there was early intervention with both medical and psychological help, but this may not be the case for everyone. There are those, who, unable to cope, may take the extreme step of taking their life, while others may risk the early onset of heart diseases and hypertension,” says Dr Bhupendra Chaudhry, consultant psychiatrist, Manipal Hospital. With exams round the corner, health experts advise parents not to exert pressure on their children to score the highest marks, no matter what the cost. They should advise students not to take additional stress as it can lead to serious complications and in some case...

BEING HUMAN

Acclaimed speaker and Yoga master, Yogi Ashwini is in the city to address the people on vedic sciences. He is a spiritual and charitable organisation which conducts free yoga classes all over the world. When asked about his trip to the city of Nizams he said, “The bottomline is that Hyderabad has certain people who practice serious advanced Yoga. There are people who have been benefited with the practice and I will meet them today.” Under the guidance of Yogi, the organisation is involved in innumerable charitable activities including running free schools for the underprivileged, vocational training centres for women, feeding dogs daily, running animal shelters, feeding thousands of animals daily, feeding thousands of poor people daily and many more. Yogi Ashwini believes that the world has become selfish and no one thinks about others. “Selfishness congests you from inside. When you are disturbed from inside, an imbalance is created in your body and you fall prey for ...

Homosexuality and the Vedas

"Without getting into the specifics of each text, some general terms to describe sexual behaviour of an individual included puns prakriti (male), stri prakriti (female), tritiya prakriti (has both male and female qualities), napumsa (deficient in manhood), nastriya (deficient in womanhood), kliba (impotent with women by nature), panda (impotent with women for various reasons), shandha (he who has qualities and behaviour of a woman), svairini (she who engages in sex with women), stripumsa (she who has qualities and behaviour of a man). The deviations from male and female characteristics were attributed to inadequacies of the parental sperm or ova, cohabitation process or the thoughts of the parents. Vedas never termed homosexuality as a crime. It is the loss of vedic culture which is being exploited. Vedas perceived all beings as equal and the laws of nature are applicable to all." Dhyan Not a Business

When we talk of meditation, we are actually talking about hypnosis; the two words are synonyms, for those who understand both. It is dhyan, which I am referring to in this article. The present-day human being is a devolved version of the beings of the Vedic period, where dharma was foremost even before self and therefore the pollution levels of air, water and soil were negligible. It is only when the human being began retracting his vision towards his individual self and finally, in today’s yug, not looking beyond oneself, the environment responded and a plethora of diseases and problems of all kinds—mental, emotional and physical—took gigantic and multi-faceted forms. The human race today is on the verge of extinction only due to its myopic vision of creation, limiting to oneself only—the self-destructing philosophy of I, me and myself... all this leading to a low level of consciousness and vice versa, a vicious circle. The practice of dhyan is a clear exit route from th...
