The futily of Vidya bought from spiritual quacks

Recently I got an email from someone seeking a meditation technique to help his situation. The gentleman had apparently learnt the sri vidya and some other vidyas (names of which, even I don’t know) from an avadhoot baba who conducts shivirs across the globe. I told him that he knew so much, he should be the one giving me lessons in yog; so how could I possibly help him? His reply was, ‘that is what the problem is. I have learnt the vidyas, but I do not know what to do now, how to prove myself…’
This gentleman is not an isolated case. There are so many across the world who are caught up in the buying and selling of myriad vidyas and kriyas in the hope of gaining name, fame, money, power, success or for the solution to a physical problem. There exists no kriya, vidya or upay  to solve your life’s problems. The only method lies in improving one’s karma. The law of karma states that whatever you give, comes back to you manifold. If you want to grow financially, start feeding the poor. If you wish to increase your knowledge, start teaching the underprivileged.
The problem is that we have reached a stage in kaliyug where hardly anyone understands what yog is or who a yogi is and what is the purpose of any vidya. As a result, the majority of people ends up chasing the various tamashas being sold in the market, without achieving anything only to realise later that they wasted their time. The purpose of yogic kriyas and vidyas is the evolution of a being; to help him break the pull of maya, not entangling himself in it and go beyond. For this to happen, one has to have the desire to go beyond the mundane (and not just to solve business/physical/emotional problems). One will only think of transcending worldly desires once the basic desires are met with and is satisfied in the physical realm. If you ask a beggar to sit with his eyes closed and do dhyan, he will just not be able to do it. He would first want his stomach to be full—only then would he be able to think of anything else.
Therefore, as long as you are merely looking to improve your physical life and are desirous of power, wealth, relationship and status, these vidyas are of no use. Even if you gain information about them from the various books in the market that give a detailed description of the various vidyas, you will not be absorb their gyan or experience. There is nothing wrong with fulfilling the physical desires. You took this body because you desired an experience, but you hold the hand of a Guru to rise above it and go beyond. First the desire has to set in and then one takes the journey forward holding the guru’s hand.
Coming back to the case of the gentleman who wrote that email, sri is the ultimate vidya, next only to Gayatri sadhana, but it cannot be given en masse to anyone or everyone. Any vidya or kriya is handed down by the guru to the shishya as per his or her capacity and requirement. It is a private relationship between them, not to be discussed with anyone outside, for it is considered a breach of faith and the backlash is severe. And avadhoot is in a state where he is above the level of the five elements, or in other words, is beyond the pleasures of the five senses. Such a person usually lives in seclusion and does not leave his or her place to hold shivirs across the world and definitely does not charge a fee to teach you tamashas.
So I would suggest, that for the time being, let these vidyas be. Improve your karma by doing something for someone else, as that is the key to growth and satisfaction in the physical realm. Once you have perfected the physical life, come to Dhyan Ashram for the journey beyond.
Yogi Ashwini is the spiritual head of Dhyan Ashram.

MERGER OF SHIV AND SHAKTI

Shiv is the doer and may be likened to a vehicle. If you remove ‘i’ from Shiv, it becomes ‘shav’ (corpse). The ‘i’ represents Shakti, which is the fuel that energises this vehicle to perform action. Shakti is the force of the physical world. Shivratri is the night of merger of Shiv and Shakti making a complete whole. Shiv and Shakti pertain to manifest creation and arise from the unmanifest. The journey back to the unmanifest can be carved only through their complete merger which is the ultimate purpose of yoga and Sanatan Kriya . A practical example of merger of Shiv and Shakti is the institution of marriage where the merger of male and female leads to manifestation of a new life. If there is a mismatch in this merger of male and female, or Shiv and Shakti, the marriage remains incomplete. This imbalance is evident in the progeny who will exhibit anti-social and undesirable behaviour and traits. The rishis of yesteryear explained how incompleteness sets into the child in t...

The day after holi: pink, green and blue faces, rashes everywhere, body aches, cold, cough and pains occurs - thanks to catching a chill in the wet clothes or an allergic reaction to the using chemical-laced colours and other numbers of particulates that float in during holi air. To keep away harsh chemicals dampening your spirits, all you have to do is to perform simple yogic techniques and raid your kitchen, kitchen garden or your granny’s spice rack to celebrate Holi naturally & organically. Chakra Beej Kriya: Part 1

Yog is not about twisting and turning yourself into knots and complicated postures, yog taps into the power of consciousness. As you practice yog in totality, as prescribed, you start glowing and the immunity of the body heightens, slowly you begin to exude the glow of the sun. The body that we greet in the mirror everyday is run by a higher force, which is invisible to the naked eye but very clearly visible to a clairvoyant in the form of colours and to a clairaudient in the form of specific sounds. These colours and sounds correspond to certain energy centers in the body, which control and govern various body parts and functions. Much before you identify symptoms of a disease or ailment and decide to visit a doctor, these symptoms are perceived by a yogic practitioner in the form of change in colour, texture, size and sound of various chakras. Sanatan Kriya prescribes various techniques under the topic of self-healing to access this invisible sheath of the body and through...
