The Renewing Yagya

Yagya is a means of direct interaction with the positive forces in creation. Vedas abound with descriptions of these yagyas performed by rishis and munis to energise manifested creation. Devas and devis would attend the yagyas. Asursa and daityas would also come, in order to disturb them, because creation is a balance of Nature’s two forces—positive and negative.

Even in the times when Rishi Agastya and Vishwamitra were in their bodies, there existed negativity. Ram and Lakshman went with Rishi Vishwamitra to protect one such yagya, from asuras. It is the nature of an asura to disrupt. The nature of a human being is to aid positive forces, the devas and devis, by protecting havans conducted for the peace and prosperity of one’s home, surroundings and creation at large. If someone is preventing you from doing a havan then that person’s asuric side is predominant —a good method to check someone else’s and your own nature.

Positive and negative sides exist in every aspect of creation. There is no body or place or time period that can be called totally positive or negative. Some have more of one, some less. A glowing and radiant body indicates the dominance of the positive, while an ageing and diseased body is a symptom of increased negativity. Similarly, a pollution-free environment is an indicator of positivity while deteriorating surroundings point towards a higher proportion of negativity. Satyug was the time when devas and devis and rishis and munis would roam about freely on earth, since positivity was at its peak. The present time of Kaliyug are the times of heightened negativity and hence, subtler energies like yogis and gurus are rare to find in the body. Devas and devis can only be accessed in their subtle forms by invoking the positive aspect of creation through certain yogic practices, acts of charity and service.
Sanatan Kriya details the amazing science of yagyas as given by the rishis to induce positivity in the body as well as the surroundings. The practice involves making oblations to fire accompanied by specific chants. Fire, which has the ability of transformation, can change the physical into the subtle while mantras have the ability to manifest the ability and power of devas in the physical world, and also have the power to control Nature and human lives in the physical form. At the beginning of a yagya, a sankalp is made which indicates the purpose for which it is conducted. Then the ahvahan (invocation) of specific devas and devis is done requesting them to bless the yagya.

A yagya performed under the sanidhya of a Guru—with purity of thought, ingredients and the correct chants—has the effect of completely changing the environment. The weather changes, the air becomes fragrant, birds sing on trees  and there is peace and stillness both within and outside, and diseases disappear. These are indicators of warding off negativity and the manifestation of positive forces in creation. Sadhaks at Dhyan Ashram routinely conduct such yagyas for purity of the home, environment and the body, the manifestations of which are witnessed and recorded and their effects felt by one and all. To quote a recent example, at the end of a five-day yagya performed by the sadhaks of Dhyan Ashram, a 71-year-old man who was advised to be put on the ventilator by doctors reported renewed health without even visiting the hospital. The yagya invoked the specific energy of maha-mrityunjai ji, which along with Gayatri mantra, forms a part of the Sanjeevani Vidya as possessed by Shukracharya. The gyan of complete vidya is lost in Kaliyug.

Another special yagya is the agnihotra, which is performed at the time of sunrise and sunset, the prime chant being “idan na mam” (all this is not mine, indicating detachment). Exactly at the time of sunset and sunrise, a specific shade of the sun’s prana is awaited and as it appears the yagya starts. The entire ceremony is normally completed in a minute or two. It is essential for all to perform agnihotra as it gives fearlessness, longevity and ability to control the elements.

If you want to know whether the yagya was performed properly or not, just watch the yagya-agni at the time of purna-ahuti. You will be able to see the form of the deva or devi if the invocations were successful. However, one needs to be careful of not getting attached to manifestations, and the focus should be on the yagya. MERGER OF SHIV AND SHAKTI

Shiv is the doer and may be likened to a vehicle. If you remove ‘i’ from Shiv, it becomes ‘shav’ (corpse). The ‘i’ represents Shakti, which is the fuel that energises this vehicle to perform action. Shakti is the force of the physical world. Shivratri is the night of merger of Shiv and Shakti making a complete whole. Shiv and Shakti pertain to manifest creation and arise from the unmanifest. The journey back to the unmanifest can be carved only through their complete merger which is the ultimate purpose of yoga and Sanatan Kriya . A practical example of merger of Shiv and Shakti is the institution of marriage where the merger of male and female leads to manifestation of a new life. If there is a mismatch in this merger of male and female, or Shiv and Shakti, the marriage remains incomplete. This imbalance is evident in the progeny who will exhibit anti-social and undesirable behaviour and traits. The rishis of yesteryear explained how incompleteness sets into the child in t...

Chakra Beej Kriya: Part 1

Yog is not about twisting and turning yourself into knots and complicated postures, yog taps into the power of consciousness. As you practice yog in totality, as prescribed, you start glowing and the immunity of the body heightens, slowly you begin to exude the glow of the sun. The body that we greet in the mirror everyday is run by a higher force, which is invisible to the naked eye but very clearly visible to a clairvoyant in the form of colours and to a clairaudient in the form of specific sounds. These colours and sounds correspond to certain energy centers in the body, which control and govern various body parts and functions. Much before you identify symptoms of a disease or ailment and decide to visit a doctor, these symptoms are perceived by a yogic practitioner in the form of change in colour, texture, size and sound of various chakras. Sanatan Kriya prescribes various techniques under the topic of self-healing to access this invisible sheath of the body and through...
