Tawadkar impressed with selfless labour of love at Dhyan Foundation, Quepem
27, May 2015
PRESS RELEASE | Ramesh Tawadkar, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, visited a gaushala belonging to an NGO Dhyan Foundation at Quepem on Sunday 24 May where over hundred injured stray cattle are being treated and nurtured. Tawadkar took a keen interest in the activities carried out by Dhyan Foundation all over India under Yogi Ashwini.
The volunteers informed the Minister that Dhyan Foundation has several gaushalas spread across the country and is also helping to create awareness about animals through FEED A DOG, HELP A MONKEY and SAVE A COW initiatives.
In the Quepem gaushala there are three legged, blind and old animals that are taken care of. Once the cattle become healthy they are shifted to the Cuncolim animal shelter of Dhyan Foundation. Dr Ashok Raikar, Retired Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry is helping the gaushala in the treatment of the injured cattle and carrying out complex surgeries with the help of Government veterinary doctors.
Swati Shilker a volunteer, informed that they have so far rescued over 150 injured stray cattle since Feb 2013 when the gaushala was started. Gautam Naik a resident of Madgao says, “Dhyan Foundation cow sanctuary is the only shelter for injured stray cows in the whole of South Goa. Government should support the NGOs so that they can take care of healthy stray animals too which would prevent loss of lives of humans and animals in road accidents on highways of Goa especially during monsoons.”
Tawadkar appreciated the selfless work done by the volunteers of Dhyan Foundation and has assured that the Government would do its best to help the all stray animals such as cats, dogs and cattle.
