Interview | How can yoga help in solving issues like corruption and naxalism?

You talk of mind pollution. What is it and how can it be removed?

To understand pollution, you must first understand nature. In nature, whatever flows remains healthy and whatever stagnate leads to disease. Stagnation would lead to pollution, which is the first stage of a disease. So, stagnation of wealth, thoughts or that of the body would definitely result in disease. The disease could manifest in any part of the atmosphere as air, soil and water pollution. In the body, it may manifest in the form of diseases like cancer, which are a manifestation of emotional pollution. The simple solution for this in Sanatan Kriya is that you let yourself flow: help others, feed others, defend the weak, become the strength of the disturbed. In so doing, your resources, whether mental or physical, shall flow and keep you and your atmosphere healthy. Don’t allow any stagnation in your bodies or banks; and hence, no pollution will be there, neither mental nor manifested (physical).

How can you tackle corruption through yoga?

Corruption stems from a wrong knowledge of the world that we live in. One who is taking a bribe for giving undue favours or to look the other way in the face of corruption is a ‘happy’ (unconcerned) soul as he/she has had teachers, masters and trainers but not the grace of the Guru. A teacher has taught them moral science and equipped them with the tools of technology that are required for their profession but the teacher has not blessed the persons with the gyan of the real world. In other words, moral science is only understood by the intellectual mind, not by the complete being as even the teacher does not understand the being in totality. The gyan has evaded the teacher and the pupil because they were not the Guru and the Shishya, and the pupil was never in Yog with his/her teacher. So, along with the teachings of your masters, teachers or trainers, it is imperative to have the grace of your Yog Guru (to remove corruption).

Are there yoga solutions for grave problems like Naxalism that affects one-third of India?

Naxalism is definitely a grave problem but it is nothing compared to the cancer of commercialisation of Yog from where most problems stem, eating into our culture. Fake Yog Gurus, who are planning to build corporate houses, have completely bypassed the teachings of Sage Patanjali such as asteya and aparigraha (non- stealing, non-coveting and non-hoarding) that are a must for a progressive society.

Besides, the Naxalite youth are brainwashed into believing that they are killing and terrorising for the sake of equality in society, that the haves, with their ill-gotten wealth, have to be brought down and looted so that the have-nots can get this wealth. Simply put, they believe that a redistribution of wealth can only happen by force. The concept of karma has been entirely bypassed as there is no Guru to explain that violence begets violence, that violence cannot harmonise society and that if you kill today, tomorrow you shall also get killed.

Naxalism affects one-third of India but its root cause affects the whole world. Making the youth practically experience the effect of violence on themselves is one of the main remedies for this problem, which only a Yog Guru can effectuate.

Since the very basis of business is profit-making, can business houses be charitable and can charity be profitable?

Every major religion of the world talks about charity. I would quote Saint Francis of Assisi here: “It’s in giving that you receive, it’s in dying that you are born again.” So, one point on which every major religion rests is completely ignored by all modern day business theories and laws. The principles of profit -maximisation and innovations have no room for charity. The law of physics that every action has an equal and opposite reaction is accepted in physics but ignored in business economics. One forgets that the opposite of profit is loss, which would strike us in some way. Even if you don’t want to follow the religious preachings, at least mix physics and economics and come to a stable conclusion. The room for charity is a must to negate the equal and opposite and to maximise profits.

MERGER OF SHIV AND SHAKTI

Shiv is the doer and may be likened to a vehicle. If you remove ‘i’ from Shiv, it becomes ‘shav’ (corpse). The ‘i’ represents Shakti, which is the fuel that energises this vehicle to perform action. Shakti is the force of the physical world. Shivratri is the night of merger of Shiv and Shakti making a complete whole. Shiv and Shakti pertain to manifest creation and arise from the unmanifest. The journey back to the unmanifest can be carved only through their complete merger which is the ultimate purpose of yoga and Sanatan Kriya . A practical example of merger of Shiv and Shakti is the institution of marriage where the merger of male and female leads to manifestation of a new life. If there is a mismatch in this merger of male and female, or Shiv and Shakti, the marriage remains incomplete.
