The secret of a long youth

YOGI ASHWINI

Agelessness and longevity have captured the interest of Masters across civilisations for eons. Anjana Rajguru spoke to Yogi Ashwini, a Living Master and the Guiding Light of Dhyan Foundation, to understand the secrets of anti-ageing of the Vedic seers as revealed in his new book Sanatan Kriya—The Ageless Dimension.

In an age where people are sceptical about the credentials of a true guru, how does one differentiate between a fake and a true guru?
Guru should exude what he talks and reflect the glow and attraction that is associated with yog. If you yourself look like a stick or are obese, if you do not have control over your own body, how can you talk about powers of the creation? The first limb of Patanjali Ashtang Yog is the five yamas—satya, asteya, aparigraha, brahmacharya, and ahimsa. A person who is selling yog to amass wealth and power for himself falls short of the first three yamas; he cannot be a yogi. Likewise a person who calls himself a brahmachari has to exude the glow and attraction that is accompanied with the vrat of brahmacharya. If it is not there, clearly there is something amiss. And if a person has not even stilled himself in the five yamas, what yog would he do or teach?

Can you give us insights into your new book Sanatan Kriya —The Ageless Dimension?
The book is an attempt to awaken the hidden powers and potentials inside the human being and to make you understand who you are, the purpose of your birth, the mechanisms behind the process of ageing and how you are damaging your body with the modern lifestyle, the threats and ways to go beyond them and live a healthy and happy life. Basically, it gives you techniques to prolong your life and leave the body at your will... knowing well where you are going. I am not saying that you will become physically immortal, but I mean you will leave your body... you won’t die.

Does the ageless dimension exist and can ageing really be arrested since ageing is inevitable?
It is normal to age... but for normal people. Ageing is a phenomenon of dulling of the senses and reduction in the size of the brain. Ageing results in increased reaction time to a stimulus, bones becoming brittle and the body weakening. We are going against nature that is why we are ageing faster. The various revolutions like Green Revolution and Industrial Revolution have polluted the planet and played havoc with our foundation and nature. Hence, there has been an advent of so many new diseases; every step, which modern science takes forward, is actually many steps towards the destruction of the body. So ageing is not natural. It is unnatural to fall sick and to age.

Ageing can be understood once life, death and the body are understood. In my book, I have tried to explain the same and also the purpose of birth.
What would your advice to people be to retain their youth and be fit till the very end?
I have given the rare Sanjeevani Saar Kriya, by which you would be able to affect a complete kayakalp in you. Also some very rare herbal recipes are given which will stall ageing and give you that glow and radiance, protecting you from the damaging effects of the modern artificial techniques. Basically, you would go close to nature, understand its secrets and use them for your beauty, glow and longevity. I am not saying that you will become physically immortal, but I am saying that you will leave your body... you won’t die.

Can working out at a gym achieve similar results?
No. Any attempt to achieve longevity and health through artificial means is futile. The further away you go from nature, the faster you age. In a gym one is engaged in rapid, strenuous movements in an artificial environment. The body is like a machine with lubrication at various joints. Friction at rapid pace would definitely wear out these joints. Observe any gym-goer beyond the age of 35, you will find high incidence of spinal and knee problems. The more outward you go, the more physical you become and the faster you deteriorate.

Does one need to follow an austere life to do yog?
Austere lifestyle is a big no in yog. Yog has no ritual, lifestyle or diet... yog sets you free. You don’t tie yourself in knots, nor breathe rapidly like an animal, or keep long hair and beards. You behave naturally, the way you desire and if you desire to be austere then you can, otherwise do what you want to do... but do your practices as told by your guru, this is a must.

MERGER OF SHIV AND SHAKTI

Shiv is the doer and may be likened to a vehicle. If you remove ‘i’ from Shiv, it becomes ‘shav’ (corpse). The ‘i’ represents Shakti, which is the fuel that energises this vehicle to perform action. Shakti is the force of the physical world. Shivratri is the night of merger of Shiv and Shakti making a complete whole. Shiv and Shakti pertain to manifest creation and arise from the unmanifest. The journey back to the unmanifest can be carved only through their complete merger which is the ultimate purpose of yoga and Sanatan Kriya . A practical example of merger of Shiv and Shakti is the institution of marriage where the merger of male and female leads to manifestation of a new life. If there is a mismatch in this merger of male and female, or Shiv and Shakti, the marriage remains incomplete. This imbalance is evident in the progeny who will exhibit anti-social and undesirable behaviour and traits. The rishis of yesteryear explained how incompleteness sets into the child in t...

Let's play organic holi!

The day after holi: pink, green and blue faces, rashes everywhere, body aches, cold, cough and pains occurs - thanks to catching a chill in the wet clothes or an allergic reaction to the using chemical-laced colours and other numbers of particulates that float in during holi air. To keep away harsh chemicals dampening your spirits, all you have to do is to perform simple yogic techniques and raid your kitchen, kitchen garden or your granny’s spice rack to celebrate Holi naturally & organically. The best part, at the end of all the merriment your skin will glow. Yogic Techniques  1. JAL NETI:  (Nasal cleansing) Take 500ml bearably warm water in a neti pot, add ½ tsp black/rock salt and a pinch of turmeric. While breathing normally from the mouth, tilt the pot so that the water runs into the right nostril and flo...

Chakra Beej Kriya: Part 1

Yog is not about twisting and turning yourself into knots and complicated postures, yog taps into the power of consciousness. As you practice yog in totality, as prescribed, you start glowing and the immunity of the body heightens, slowly you begin to exude the glow of the sun. The body that we greet in the mirror everyday is run by a higher force, which is invisible to the naked eye but very clearly visible to a clairvoyant in the form of colours and to a clairaudient in the form of specific sounds. These colours and sounds correspond to certain energy centers in the body, which control and govern various body parts and functions. Much before you identify symptoms of a disease or ailment and decide to visit a doctor, these symptoms are perceived by a yogic practitioner in the form of change in colour, texture, size and sound of various chakras. Sanatan Kriya prescribes various techniques under the topic of self-healing to access this invisible sheath of the body and through...
