CHOOSE YOUR SADHNA PATH

The purpose of creation is experience, each one of us has taken birth because of desire for a specific experience. Depending on that desire, guru carves out the path of sadhna for you and gives you the mantra to invoke the shakti or dev which is responsible for it.

Sadhaks may be put into three broad categories—Brahma sadhaks, Vishnu sadhaks and Shiv sadhaks. It is the path they walk that differentiates one sadhak from the other, and no path is higher or lower than the other. The path of Brahm is that of aiding Lord Brahma in the process of creation. That of Vishnu sadhaks is to assist Lord Vishnu in the preservation and maintenance of creation. And, the Shiv sadhaks tread the path of Lord Shiv, the journey back." Yogi Ashwini

Lord Brahma gave birth to physical creation. The task of ensuring its smooth functioning was entrusted upon Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiv paved the path of the journey back.

And, the Shiv sadhaks tread the path of Lord Shiv, the journey back.

The temples of Lord Vishnu attract people in large numbers. At such places, you will find there is no dearth of wealth, grandeur and funds. Patrons of Lord Vishnu profess health, happiness and material fulfilment, which is what the majority is seeking. Maya is the force of Vishnu. Ya devi sarvbhuteshu Vishnu maya shabdita, goes the sloka. It is the force that runs creation, but it is also the force that ties you to it. Let us not forget that every aspect of physical creation—wealth, property, beauty, power, status—is temporary. While it brings pleasure as it comes along, as it leaves (and leave it will), it leaves you with pain and grief. If you visit a Brahma temple in present times, chances of finding a sadhak are rare. Such places are adorned with alcoholics and drug addicts with no signs of yog or dhyan. In fact, at some of these spots, cattle mafias are in full swing, where cows and camels are illegally sold for slaughter. The reason for this is simple. There is little need for Brahma in present times. All that had to be created, has already been created (it depends on your capacity what you can take from it). It is human mentality, to forget about that which is not our immediate requirement.

This is where the Shiv sadhaks step in. They show the exit route from both pain and pleasure: Aham brahm asmi, tat tvam asi, Shivohum. All these refer to the journey back. It is imperative to understand here that the return journey does not mean going back to Lord Brahma. Creation began with him, but the journey back is the path of Para-brahma, that which is real.

To walk the path of Lord Shiv, one has to forego his/her attachments and leave behind the material or unreal, which is why most find it a difficult journey to traverse. Majority find excuses to change their path because they know to be on this path they will have to bear pain of leaving behind what they hold dear. You know how difficult it is to let go of something. You will not find grandeur or opulence at a Shiv dham. There will be no singing or dancing, nor a display of beautiful clothes or jewellery. The path of Shiv sadhak is simple and straightforward. That is why Shiv sadhaks are not very popular in the physical world. They keep themselves away from the effects of Vishnu’s maya.

Shiv sadhaks don’t take anything from you, neither do they make big promises or give upays. They only speak of letting go, instantly. You either leave everything or you don’t, there is nothing like ‘working towards it’. Shiv dhams don’t even have greenery.

You have to decide which path you want to walk—utpatti, vaibhav, or moksha—that of Brahma, Vishnu or Shiv. Because based on the state of the sadhak and his desires, the guru then guides him on the path of sadhna and mantra sadhna for giving back to the various energies and harnessing the shakti within.

MERGER OF SHIV AND SHAKTI

Shiv is the doer and may be likened to a vehicle. If you remove ‘i’ from Shiv, it becomes ‘shav’ (corpse). The ‘i’ represents Shakti, which is the fuel that energises this vehicle to perform action. Shakti is the force of the physical world. Shivratri is the night of merger of Shiv and Shakti making a complete whole. Shiv and Shakti pertain to manifest creation and arise from the unmanifest. The journey back to the unmanifest can be carved only through their complete merger which is the ultimate purpose of yoga and Sanatan Kriya . A practical example of merger of Shiv and Shakti is the institution of marriage where the merger of male and female leads to manifestation of a new life. If there is a mismatch in this merger of male and female, or Shiv and Shakti, the marriage remains incomplete. This imbalance is evident in the progeny who will exhibit anti-social and undesirable behaviour and traits. The rishis of yesteryear explained how incompleteness sets into the child in t...

Chakra Beej Kriya: Part 1

Yog is not about twisting and turning yourself into knots and complicated postures, yog taps into the power of consciousness. As you practice yog in totality, as prescribed, you start glowing and the immunity of the body heightens, slowly you begin to exude the glow of the sun. The body that we greet in the mirror everyday is run by a higher force, which is invisible to the naked eye but very clearly visible to a clairvoyant in the form of colours and to a clairaudient in the form of specific sounds. These colours and sounds correspond to certain energy centers in the body, which control and govern various body parts and functions. Much before you identify symptoms of a disease or ailment and decide to visit a doctor, these symptoms are perceived by a yogic practitioner in the form of change in colour, texture, size and sound of various chakras. Sanatan Kriya prescribes various techniques under the topic of self-healing to access this invisible sheath of the body and through...
